repairing CF hood...need help

Default repairing CF hood...need help

I just bought a CF hood the other day that has a crack where the it mounts onto the hinge. anybody with suggestions on how to fix the crack and make it sturdier. I don't want it to crack again. TIA!

you can use fiberglass on the underside and maybe sand re-epoxy the top and then clear but i dont know if its gonna come out perfect .. you can always use some fiberglass sheets to build up the areas that may be prone to crack

I went ahead and used the fiberglass bondo stuff. worked out prett good. just have to sand it down and paint it black. thanks for the suggestions.

bondo? or fiberglass? Bondo will expand over time. You dont want this.

it's called "fiberglass bondo", I guess it's basically fiberglass in a can. it has a fiber base just like fiberglass.

Keep your eye on it for re-cracking. I think what you have is a bondo type product with glass fibre added. Better than regular bondo but not intended for structural use. If it cracks again you might want to repair it with some fibreglass mat and resin.

I have worked with it before and it's very strong. I've been looking for a similar carbon fibre product but I haven't seen anything yet.

Anyone else?

yeah, I was going to use some fiberglass mat with resin but it only came in big bulk. I only needed a little piece. I'll watch out for cracks.
