well i guess you need to do a little more research so that you are comfortable with your setup, i just know that a few people here run ITR retainers, have fun!!

I heard port flow valve springs were awesome for 9k-10k. I would get either skunk2 retainers or crower retainers. Both of them do a good job but im not sure which one will hold under high revs? Anyone?

itr retainers are the same damn thing as GSRs. lol
stock retainers should be able to handle 9k with portflow valvesprings.
I tend to stay away from Titanium retainers b/c of their quick wear issues and horror stories.

and since were on the subject, can i use Bseries retainers on a sohc D?</TD></TR></TABLE>
No i dont beleive you can use B series retainers on D series motors. Actually, i highly doubt it. I wouldnt go with isky retainers. Get skunk2 retainers or crower retainers, make sure you have valves and springs though. Crower springs are nice and stiff, they are good for high rpm.(9-10k)

Stock retainers would be fine. Just remember there isn't really a need to rev your car that high if your loosing power there.
Titanium retainers are a great upgrade for lightening the valvetrain, just remember that they are a wear item. So keep that in mind. There are advancements in retainers like TiN coated ones etc... to help prevent wear characteristics commonly associate with Ti retainers.

again since we are on the subject
i have plans to upgrade the cam on my SOHC, but i ran into a little snag ( namely having to have my head machined) and so the 300 bux that was gonna go towards a cam is gonna go towards the shop
but while there i can atleast get them to upgrade the valvetrain so i wont have to pop my head off later on when i get the cam
soo... my question
whats more important for high rpm operation, quality of retainers or springs?
i was originaly planning on getting a crower stage 2 cam, they say power goes up to 7500 and then some, and they "recomend" their springs/retainer kit
how good are typical SOHC springs/retainers?.... but at the same time this is on a 100K mile engine!! so maybe its good to change them anyway....
**** being on a college budget sucks ***

^^ If you get cams, you should get retainers and springs and valves.....you dont wanna do this half ***. Plus if you get cam gears you never know you could make power up to 8200. Dont go half way, if you get cams, get retainers, valves and springs, running on stock cam gears sucks to so you should get jun gears.
Save up a little more and purchase them all together, youll have a pretty reliable top end.

^^ If you get springs then you should go with valves and retainers too, cause its all near each other. You will be charged more if you get them done seperatly, just like a clutch and flywheel, you want to get them installed at the same time so it doesnt cost you double.
