zc swap
heres the deal, i'm gonna be swapping a zc dohc in my ef sedan and i'm planning on turbo'ing it also. i'm planning on boosting around 6-8psi, because i wanna use this car as my daily driver also. now is the stock internals gonna be fine or should i put different pistons and rods in it? also can someone tell me what tranny i should get, a dx or an si?? thankx in advance!!!!!!
I dunno what turbo you are using, but try to get a 2-stage boost controller. have one set for really low boost for commuting, and the other set at the upper limit of what you reasonably want to boost for "spirited" driving.
I had a setup like that in my legacy turbo, and it made commuting a lot calmer. not so much time spent monitoring boost levels, A/F, etc at part throttle.

If your not going to be doing much tuning, stick with 6psi or less. The ZC can handle up to 10-12 with some dyno time, and this wouldnt be a daily driver on stock internals....at least I wouldnt drive it as so seeing as how I do drive...heh.

I would personally use the Si tranny if your car is a daily driver. The fact being that the 5th gear is crappy on the zc tranny like 4200-4400 rpm at 80mph. You can also use the integra equal length axles if the ZC dohc came with a halfshaft.
Good luck
I kinda miss my old ZC, but moved on to B series and loving it.

http://www.raceeng.com for performance pistons and rods for the zc dohc motor
ya see if your turbo has alot of lag like a t3 on a 1.6 you wont be making alot of power until the turbo spools at like 4 or 5 thousand so the longer you stay in gear the better, with a small turbo like mitsu's and vnt t25's you'll spool at 3 or 4 grand you can shift alot and it wont mater, remember your turbo loses boost when you shift
i would use a dx but they will both work fine, check this site out http://www.knology.net/~jedikl...s.htm

5th gear at 80 mph:
stock zc= 4036 rpms
stock si= 3874 rpms
Negligible difference in rpms really...it's when you swap the Si final drive into a zc without the si 5th that it gets ugly for freeway duty(4412 rpms).
The only reason to run a stock ZC tranny is the more evenly spaced gear ratios and intermediate shaft setup.
A quality low mileage Si transmission is hard to find these days while low mileage ZCs are common for under $200.

IMO, i would never boost an unbuilt ZC. looking inside one, the rods are the size of my ring finger, and while they may hod up to 10-12 psi, they won't do it without some serious careful tuning.
