Amplifier power wire: drill or use existing hole?
Dear fellow Prelude enthusiasts,
Have any of you run a power wire for your radio amplifier? I am investigating how to do this on my 2001 Prelude and I have yet to find a promising hole in the firewall that would allow me to run such a wire easily. Will I be forced to drill a hole in the firewall myself? Any suggestions, other than "bring it to a pro" ?
Thanks,
Etienne Laneville

Not sure on the 5th gens, but on my 4th gen I found the perfect place.. facing the engine with the hood open, at the left on the back of the engine bay is the fuse box..
unbolt and unclipl this and pull it to the side, underneath/behind the box there is a 1.5" or so diameter rubber plug, I just got a metal pipe, sharpened the edges and put it and the plug in a press and it cut out a perfect hole for the power wire to go through..
see if yours is layed out the same way.. good luck!
(you will find one, dont drill!)

I have found that same rubber plug in mine, but I have not been able to reach that spot from the inside of the car at all. It seems to be behind the air conditioner, out of reach. Did you have this problem?
I tried punching a small hole with a wire hanger through that rubber an see if I could plow through to the other side (to the inside of the car) but after punching the first outer membrane, I hit something else that I could not identify, just 1/4 inch later. So that scared me a little bt and wanted to ask people here on the forums about their experience.
Please let me know if you have any other pointers!

hey man im having the same problem, did you figure it out yet, it looks like there is no hole on a 5th gen lud man! im gonna try putting a hole thru the rubber grommet that comes off of the fuse box on the passenger side in the engine bay. if you havent done that yet, ill be the guniea pig! ha or let me know if you found a way all ready! thanx
There is a hole under the fusebox in the engine bay. I used that one since the battery is already on that side so it sort of makes things easier. I used a flathead screwdriver to punch a hole in the rubber gromett and fed the wire through there. It should come down by the passengers feet but sometimes the wire gets stuck up under the glove compartment so you might have to dig for it
Yeah, use the rubber grommet behind the fuse box. You'll probably have to reach up in there and root around for the end once you start feeding the wire through. Might have to pull the glove compartment out as well, I forget.

Yes that is the same hole I used, to make it even easier you can spray a little WD40 on the rubber grommet and wire and that sucker should slide right through.

Nope, it's an unused rubber grommet. Just poke the wire through it and see if it drops down on the passenger side footwell. If it doesn't just try again. It took me two tries to get it.
