Will my car 'turn over' without a distributor?
Well I'm having problems tracking down all my wiring woes after swapping in an OBD1 sohc vtec swap into my OBD EK hatch. I've rewired the distributor however when I go to turn the car over, the entire electrical system dies. I have to undo the ground on the battery and give it another shot. Same thing.
So if I were to unhook my distributor wiring it should at the very least engage the starter and have the motor turn over and spit fuel correct? Any ideas on why the electrical system dies? I have the motor grounded on the head and transmission.

I understand that much.
But it should still cause the starter to turn over right? Not short out the whole system like you blew a main relay fuse right?

thats right your engine should still turn over. it obviously wont start. make sure your grounds are sufficient and your battery isn't dead (sounds obvios i know) next step is to check at the starter to make sure its getting 12v when the key is in crank position. (have friend hold key in position while you put a test light on the black/white wire going to starter, should light up when key in crank position) if not then you have wiring problem if it does light then next make sure you have battery power. the big *** wire going to the starter and if you've got both and a good ground your starter is bad.
I'm going to unhook the distributor and give it a shot in the morning as well as charge the battery.
The fuel pump primes, I hear the main relay click, the cluster works and does the whole sequence with the battery, seatbelt, CEL, etc.. but when I turn the key to 'ignition on' it just dies as if i blew a main fuse.
Any other suggestions on what to look for in the morning? Even with the distributor wired wrong would this still happen?

Make sure your main engine harness ground that bolts onto the thermostat housing is there and botled on. If not then most if the time if wont start. Also just check all over the entire harness for bare or nicked wires that would cause a short when they saw 12volts.
