d16z6 longblock in 4g Si questions
did a search already, but found no definate answers.
im using a d16z6 longblock in my 4g hatch. im going to be using the intake mani/tb/inj/fuelrail from an a6, as well as the wiring harness. the longblock has a y8 head on it. will the a6 distributor bolt to the y8 head? also, will i need to use the 'block side' of the front motor mount from the a6? any other things i should be worried about besides the vtec control?

Re: d16z6 longblock in 4g Si questions (dynamicauto)
Why use the A6 manifold?? The z6 will flow better. But anyway, the a6 distributor will fit, but only 2 bolts will hold it on, the third doesnt line up(a bit tricky setting the timing). All the 4g mounts will be used on the new engine.
Overall its a easy swap, especially since you dont have to convert dpfi to mpfi.
Let me know if you have any other questions...

I noticed that you said the Z6 block has a Y8 head. In that case, the A6 distributor will bolt directly to it without having to cut or modify it. You should be using an 88-91 Civic/CRX driver's side engine mount bracket and mount so that everything lines up and bolts in properly. Since you are using all the A6 stuff I assume you are staying OBD0. In order to control the VTEC you will at least need an MSD RPM switch or equivalent. The better option with an OBD0 setup would be an Apex-i, Feild's, etc. VTEC controller which also allows you to do some air/fuel tuning.

Re: d16z6 longblock in 4g Si questions (SC0TT)
can i use the z6 manifold with obd0? will there not be some sensors that wont work correctly? any advice would be helpful. As for the vtec, im planning on using an apexi unit...

Yes you can use the Z6 manifold and all OBD0 parts with no sensor issues. I have personally done a few of these swaps in various forms. I currently have a 00 D16Y7 with 95 Z6 manifold and all PM6 OBD0 electronics (distributor, injectors, ECU) in an 89 DX hatch.
An Apex-i VAFC would be a good choice if you plan on using the OBD0 electronics. It will allow you to make the VTEC solenoid function as well as tune a little.

thanks again!

another option to run VTEC would be to use a B16A PR3 ecu & have it reprogrammed with a number of disabled sensors. This way, you'll be running a true VTEC program on a VTEC engine; 2 fuel & timing maps whereas a non-vtec ecu only has 1 set of fuel & timing maps.
if you get a hold of a PR3 ecu and would like to go this route. Once chipped, there's only 1 wire you'd need to wire in, and that would be the VTEC solenoid wire.

Good info. Use your z6 int. mani. and your stock a6 dizzy with no problems. The swap will look very clean cause when I had my z6 head I had to cut and modify my dizzy which also was a pain to set my timing. Good swap though pretty fun in the ef's

okay, plans have changed. im going to use a FAST fuel injection system. Anything to consider here? any sensors better than others from year to year? it comes with a wideband o2, and they will put whatever plugs from whatever year car i need, so should i still use the a6 distributor, or just use a y8/z6 distro?
