Default Dual Exhaust

Going to put in a new exhaust on my '92 Prelude H23. I would like to install dual exhaust but dont want to rob the engine of horse power. Can I do this with good results? What size piping should I use from the header back? Any advise would be highly apreciated.

calculate the cross-sectional area of the input pipe and then figure out what diameter of piping x 2 makes the same area. Then you should see no noticeable loss in performance.

Accords with H22as/F20bs had dual exhausts...just reduce the piping after the Y by the appropriate amount

If I just ad the exhaust tips and leave the oem piping I shouldnt lose power right? Cause I will be adding another pipe about 2 feet long for the second exhaust tip. It currently has an iceman air intake, DC sports header, and an aftermarket catylitic converter.

I wouldn't do it that way, looks really cheezy, but to answer your question
no i don't think you would lose any power, if i were you i would get it
split into duals right after the cat or test pipe if you don't have a cat.
looks better that way

Thats what i was planning on doing splitting it after the cat. So I shouldnt lose horsepower then? Should I replace the oem piping with a larger one? If so what size? Thanks

dude your a ricer but if your going to do it id say just tack a dummy pipe onto the functional exhust pipe that runs back to the muffler that way the exhust still flows the correct way, you dont loose back pressure, and you added weight to try to look cool

No, as long as the overall diameter of the 2 pipes remains the same size as the 1 oem pipe, you wont lose any power. Do not buy two larger pipes or you'll hate your car, and so will everyone on this board. Make sure that if youre going to do this, do it right. Re-read what Satan_SRV said and give it a shot. Some ludes look tasteful with two exhaust pipes coming out (not canisters, mind you).

Yup i agree... i think dual exhaust looks kinda cheezy... especially on a prelude or any other Jap

If your talking about a 5.0 or a camaro or some muscle car for that matter, go for it, but not for a lude.

Why would you say I added weight? All I'm asking for is advice, not sarcasm. I thought that's what these forums were for?

Thanks SKDRCR, NatakuBlitz for the feedback. Coldth1--I'll try to get pics up as soon as I get it done.

Where would you put it under the car? it's not like there is an abundance of ground clearance....

you would have to have it custom made to where both pipes run
back the original exhaust path then after the rear axle they split,
so one of the pipes would have two extra bends

If I were to ad just one exhaust tip what size pipe should I use to replace the oem piping? All the way from the header back.

I was hangin out under my car yesterday hookin up sway bars and i thought about this post, given where the spare tire well is located, if u are lookin from the back end of the car, it's just about 6 inches shifted to the left compared to the other side where your original muffler is. doing a Y pipe from the cat would be really hard in my opinion...maybe i'm crazy, but u'd need to have yer new pipe lower than yer old one, which i would say is prolly not a good idea looking at how much lower it would need to be run (pretty much under the spare tire well). It may be different in your case, i have a 1999 but i wouldn't do it for the simple fact that i wouldn't know how to get around not properly shielding the heat coming off the new pipe, a lot of things run on the left side of my car, probably to stay away from the heat of an exauhst pipe. I love dual exhaust just as much as the next guy, but i'd be careful running an exhaust pipe that close to fuel lines.
