Default TACH problem!

i put in a tach from a 92 civic dx (unbolted it from the whole cluster) and put it mickey mouse style into my car, now i hooked the power up ti a remote wire, so it turns on at ACC, now when i start my car and it gets a signal, it idles at 3000rpm which should be ~800rpm and it can go wayyyy past the 8000 marker. i dunno if i hooked somethin up wrong or what? is there a way to pull the needle off w/o breaking it or did i just wire it wrong. there are 3 wires PLS, ING, and GND hooked the GND to ground(of course) the ING to and ACC wire, and PLS to the blue wire comin off the distributor. If anyone can help TIA.
