will, i just recently put on some type r camshafts and when i do my timming with the motor turned off, everything lines up. but when i use the timming gun to check my timmning, it's off. and i would have to retard the disturbutor all the way for it to line up... do u guys know whats worng?????? help!!!!!!!!

Which timing are you talking about? You check camshaft timing with the engine turned off, by lining up marks on crankshaft & camshaft pulleys. No timing light here, & this has nothing to do with turning the distributor. You say everything lines up, so it sounds like this is OK.

You check spark timing by using a timing light... You can't really do this with the engine turned off. Does your timing light have an advance dial? Set it to ZERO & look for the middle of 3 closely-spaced marks on the crank pulley.
