Is my head warped?
I just installed a 91 b16 head i bought used on an ls block, and im getting a major oil leak from the rear of the motor right under the intake manifold, but I cant see exactly where its coming from. I know its not my oil line. I know I installed the head gasket right which is a cometic ls/vtec 81.50mm for ls/vtec. I have arp head bolts and it says to torque them lower than the helms calls for due to the moly lube. The bottom end is fresh with cp pistons 9.8:1 .020" over and im VERY worried that the rings didnt seat or something because its smoking. Can someone help me out please, im pissed!!!

That's good. Is the little silver tab that says "PR4" or "P30" visible on the front of the engine near the transmission?

When you resurface a head how much material is usually taken off. I dont want to mill anything because of height/clearence issues involved with it.
did you have the dowls drilled on the head or are you using the steped dowl pins? ive seen people get the dowls drilled and they are not deep enough or tapered not letting the dowl to go far enough in the hole and dont allow for proper sealing. either way the head is coming off. just something to keep your eye on.
in some cases, the "UP" does not mean that the head gasket needs to be that direction...in my case it was down
and are the torque specs on your headstuds?, mine were 75 at final...did you get all your head studs torqued down?
pull you head off, check the gasket, go get it surfaced to make sure it is not warped, get a new gasket, and make sure you torue all your studs down
my arp went like this, 33, 55, 75 final...
edit: ever consider your block is warped?, get that checked FIRST

I am not sure there is a "usual". If you simply want the head resurfaced to ensure the head is flat, the head shop will remove the minimum, which will obviously depend on severity of head warpage. Should not be much more than .002-.005in.
