Default Optimum A/F Ratio...

I was wondering what the prime a/f ratio for a n/a Honda would be...? I know that for boosted cars, they say an a/f of 11.8:1-12.2:1 is the best... So for an n/a car would it be around like 13.0:1 or closer to 13.5:1...? Thanx in advance...

well the usuall honda tech answer would be to dyno tune it and its whatever it makes the most power at as all motors/setups are different but that usually seems to be 13:1-13.5:1 from what ive seen.....

From my experince road tuning and at the dyno, N/A hondas typically respond best to ~13.4-13.6:1 AFR. Sometimes you can squeeze a little power closer to 14:1, but then your stepping into unfriendly waters. After about 14:1 it seems to stop producing gains. When I road tune, I tune to 13.5:1.

I usually road tune to 13.5. When doing tuning on the dyno, I've seen n/a Hondas make power anywhere between 12.5 to 13.8. You have to see what each motor likes since they're all different.

Cool, thanks for all the replies... My car is tuned to about a 13.0:1 a/f right now, but may lean it out to a 13.5:1 for a little better gas mileage, and a bit more power... Thanx again...

Each motor is different. My motor likes it closer to 13.0-13.2. Some motors like it better at 13.5-13.6. It just depends on the motor.

Lean your part throttle maps out to increase your fuel efficiency. Tweak your WOT columns to give you best power. If one or both of these AFRs is exactly 13.5:1, I'd be surprised - in fact I know 13.5:1 is too rich for fuel efficiency in your part throttle maps.

All this discussion about what one motor likes versus another... tailpipe sniffers (on cars without cats) read leaner than units installed into an alternate O2 sensor bung due to reversion. You'll also find that there is a couple tenths of discrepancy in AFR between what your wideband logs on the dyno versus what it reads on the street under actual use. All that cool fresh air you get when driving leans things out a touch.

13.5:1 a/f ratio thats fine.. your right on the money, it will make the most power in that range... chipped ecu and vafc =

My car was tuned in open loop with the O2 sensor in the exhaust... We didn't use the tailpipe snifffer... My partial throttle a/f is around the 14.5-14.7:1 range... I assume that's aight for just around town light throttle driving... Last tank of gas yielded me 305 miles and that wasn't to the end of the tank...
