2000 Civic Si Timing Belt replacement???
I'm approaching 60k miles and the dealer says I should replace the timing belt. He says that living in Las Vegas (high temperatures), can cause them to fail sooner.
Does this sound right?
Should/could I wait longer?
How much should a dealer charge?
thanks

I would advise you to change the belt. Sure, you may be able to take it over 60k on the belt, but I wouldn't take that chance. I'm not sure how much is reasonable because I do my own labor.
sometimes they last up to 153k
, but you dont wanna take a chance so you should replace it. the dealer will charge you about 500-550 with the waterpump included. or you can do it elsewhere for 350.

dealerships = robbers for your lack of knowledge
i replaced my timing belt in my 99 si around 73k( still got the used belt in my closet and the wear isnt even all that bad.) but i advise you to change it sometime soon too. I wouldnt take the chance
the shop i took it to let me do it myself and they guided me through so i wouldnt mess nothing up.
he only charged me $70 to learn plus he did a mild tune up which replaced most fluids and even fixed my cruise control
