Default 2000 Civic Si Timing Belt replacement???

I'm approaching 60k miles and the dealer says I should replace the timing belt. He says that living in Las Vegas (high temperatures), can cause them to fail sooner.

Does this sound right?

Should/could I wait longer?

How much should a dealer charge?

thanks

I would advise you to change the belt. Sure, you may be able to take it over 60k on the belt, but I wouldn't take that chance. I'm not sure how much is reasonable because I do my own labor.

sometimes they last up to 153k , but you dont wanna take a chance so you should replace it. the dealer will charge you about 500-550 with the waterpump included. or you can do it elsewhere for 350.

Yeah, you're right. It would be much better to get it done at the dealership if you're not aboslutely sure how to do it.

dealerships = robbers for your lack of knowledge

i replaced my timing belt in my 99 si around 73k( still got the used belt in my closet and the wear isnt even all that bad.) but i advise you to change it sometime soon too. I wouldnt take the chance

the shop i took it to let me do it myself and they guided me through so i wouldnt mess nothing up.

he only charged me $70 to learn plus he did a mild tune up which replaced most fluids and even fixed my cruise control
