Well if you are using the p2p ecu, you are going to have to wire up the following:

Knock Sensor (need to buy one, ensure its obd2)
Vtec Selenoid
Vtec Oil Pressure sensor

You will also need to perform a 2 wire conversion for your IACV, which you will also need to puchase. If you do a search on this, you should be able to find one.

If I get the wiring harness from an EX, and the ecu, would it be easier than adding wires?

No, you have to add the secondary o2 sensor wires to it, so not easier

you sure about that?

If he uses a 96-98 EX engine harness & the ecu, he wont' have to wire anything at all, everything is already integrated into the EX wire harness (2nd 02, VTEC solenoid & VTPS, etc).

The only problem I forsee is the P2P ecu looking for a knock sensor. Non-VTEC 96-01 blocks don't run knock sensor, but an EX engine does.

powerslide360, here's the wiring diagram for a 96-98 civic if you plan to reuse your non-vtec engine harness:

Yes sir I am, had to do it myself, the o2 sensor is part of the dash harness on 96+ vtec civics

Wrong, he will have to add the second o2 sensor to it

Katman, I have the wiring harness with the SOHC VTEC head -- so I sould just wire it up like it was in the EX model? What happens (or will it happen) if the engine throws a CEL on me for the knock sensor?
**please...help me! Need to finish this project!

If I go by the diagrams with the DX (non VTEC) wiring harness, the pic of Plug A will fix the engine wiring completely?

yes, if you have the EX engine harness USE IT. If you get a MIL code (23) for the KS, its ok, you can still drive around. Wire in the KS whenever you have the time to.

well, it will only fix the IACV, VTEC solenoid, and 02 sensor portion of the wiring; you would still have to wire in the VTEC Pressure switch in plug C, and the Knock sensor on plug D....if you plan to reuse a non-VTEC engine harness.
