Default Del Sol guy: Phantom Grip LSD

There is a guy i know in terre haute that is getting a GSR engine, and he plans to put LSD. He said he's getting a phantom grip LSD. I looked it up on the net, but didn't think much of it. He said he is getting it for $950. In my mind i thought that was cheap, but then i started to think how much is the LSD in our cars cost? I would think it would cost more than 950 to get LSD. Then again i'm still learning.

any insite?

peace

Phantom grip lsd's are around $300. I think he might be referring the price with tranny and lsd..

Turbo: Sorry, yeah that price includes the tranny. Does the price of 950 seem right for the tranny/lsd then? You figure with that kind of a price that many other cars would install LSD.

thanks,

lyle

on the Phantom Grip "LSD". It is not a "real" LSD. All it does is give a pseudo LSD effect. It works by placing a lot of pressure on your differential gears, forcing them to bind...

This is a pic of the Phantom "LSD" an aquaintence of mine bought:

It consists of those two metal plates. On the inside there are 4 metal springs sandwiched.

It should cost $250-$270 retail

kaaz LSD's cost like AUS$2.5k... and they arn't as good as the Honda OEM ones which of cause cost alot more than a Kaaz LSD. Cause the Kaaz make alot of noise when turning!

That doesn't even look like an LSD, more of a bench tool! lol

I have oem TypeR lsd and I have around 500@wheel hp. I cut 1.6 60ft. Only thing I can recommend is qualife. I have learned from various past experiences , do it right the first time, u save money and time. GSR tranny should be around $700 and then qualife is another 900. I would get this setup if u are planning to boost alot. TypeR lsd is better than phantom grip. Get typer and gsr tranny if u don't want to spend that much money..

aklucsarits: then techincally it's NOT an LSD? I guess my question is, how does a limited slip diff work? For instance, a person with any old integra would NOT be able to say he/she has LSD if he were to buy this phantom grip "LSD", correct? That person would have to have a tranny that has LSD already part of it?

I heard from some racing guys that the Phantom Grip does next to nothing for people who do even a little lapping. If you want an LSD, get a real LSD. A Phantom grip is NOT an LSD.

They shouldn't even cost very much. Somewhere around 300$ like someone said here. Oh yeah, he did say it helped him in the snow somewhat...

lyle

Heh, Phantom Grips are commonly reffered to as "Phantom Slips", 1, they don't grip for ****, and 2, they have a tendancy to break, sending your entire tranny to ****. and as for kaaz not being as good as OEM, untrue, Kaaz is actually a lot more agressive than the oem lsd...
