Default OT: Another standalone customer coverted (B18A-T)

Sorry mods, should be in FI I know, but R guys/gals like standalone's too.

From Haltech to EMS.

B18A (with forged internals)
Webb cams
T3/T4 .63/.60
etc.....

Haltech @15psi

EMS @ only 9 psi

Only change was the ECU and lower boost level.

Data from final run at 20psi

Not knocking Haltech, just continuing the endless task of providing data for persons that hate on the EMS

But with 20psi of boost, one would expect better numbers.

im not understanding how one is really better than the other. it all comes down to what the tuner can do with each. if you cant tune haltech and someone else did a shitty job on the tune , and you are used to EMS and redid the tune on that, that explains why it looks better. Both systems really almost do the same thing , EMS just has more features.

Its true and everytime he post these "ems vs hondata" "ems vs my ***"... some one mentions what you just typed, I guess he dosnt care. What if a monkey tuned on the haltech with one arm strapped behind his back?

seriously the EMS rules. the ONLY option that it does not have, that I think it should and supposedly they are working on, is having a switch where you can simply have 10 maps loaded into the ECU, and turn the switch to whatever map you want to run. the UTEC has this feature and its awesome.

- You can have a straight up hardcore drag map with rev limiters and launch controls.
- Another map maybe tuned for mid range for autox or road courses.
- even a valet type map, where the car either wont start, or wont rev past 1500rpm.
- etc....

WTF? Everytime Jack posts something everyone starts talking crap over nothing. On 9 psi EMS was a close contender to Haltech on 15 psi, anyone can see that, that leads me to believe that at 15 psi on EMS the numbers should be twice as better as Haltech. Noone said EMS is better than Haltech.

Sticking the low peak numbers aside, that powerband isn't very impressive either. Granted i don't know the modifications, he could be running stock exhaust for all i know. But the 20 psi run, look how many RPM's he has left after he reaches full boost. There is some more power under peak boost that can be extracted safely if you ask me.

peak numbers are for bench racers

no, peak numbers actually mean something when you can make them at 5000rpms and carry that power all the way to redline. You should see a well done LS head with 34mm intake valves, early peak, but the power doesn't fall off. And that turbo is nothing out of the ordinary, there are ways of safely making it spool earlier.

I have no idea who/where this head came from, I just converted the ECU. Car was built/assembled/tuned by Sean G. at Extreme Motorsports a few years ago.

that turbo is nothing out of the ordinary

I never claimed it was "extra ordinary"

i just meant i've delt with it before, and it's a good turbo.

But odds are this guy was running a stock (or close to it) LS head, in which case, like you say peak numbers aren't gonna mean much. I was just expressing my opinion that peak power isn't just for "bench racers" when givin the right scenario.

Sadly, whenever he posts these threads I lose more respect for a good friend...

Just post stuff like "yo this haltech tuner sucked yo".
