Has anyone ever heard of or replaced an intermediate shaft on a B-series motor?? THing is, My GSR swap in my hatch was fine for a couple of months. I then noticed that it made a clucking noise when I turned left..

Here are the symptoms:
When turning left, I hear a clucking noise from my right (shallow, possibly intermediate shaft) When a friend sits in the passenger seat, he hears the clucking coming from the left.

When turning right and accelerating the same time, no noise whatsoever.

When on the highway going 60 (steady 60 mph) no noise. When i accelerate it in 5th, i hear the clucking noise again!

Now here's the catch, upon doing the motor swap, I did change the passenger side axle (reman). The driver side axle did have play when first swapped in, so i decided to change it a week ago.

Being that both axles are changed and are remanufactured. COULD IT BE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT??? Only opinions I have heard were that, the passenger axle may be bad on the inner joint. Or, rare cases, the bearing on the intermediate shaft is bad.

Please HELP. Any advice or perspectives, experience on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had the same problem... its the axles.

 

check cv boots for greese leaks if they're broken dirt will get in the bearings and ruin the halfshaft, very easy to repair.

 

Gonna try changing the passenger axle, maybe it was a faulty reman axle...

its a CV joint. Replace the axels and you're happy panda.

If you need reasurance, check the inside of your wheel. There will be grease/dirt on it. While you're there, check the axel boots and find the hole.

 

Sorry it took so long to reply for the update. I did change the right side axle. What i realized when i looked at the sale receipt was that, Asses from the shop that i picked it up from gave me an axle for all other models "EXCEPT GSR". I was informed by the guy i worked with for the past couple of weeks for my parts.

Here is the wierd thing:

I did notice that the LS or whatever axle was somewhat smaller (very slightly by my EYES) meaning the part that goes into the tranny. length did look the same though.

Axle was fine for the first month, no clicking whatsoever.

axle was remanned, boots was not ripped, BUT I did get ripped off! (win some you lose some...)

But now, my problems are fixed! NO NOISE!!!

BTW: sorry for the long write-up. Just make sure that if you are replacing your axle, you may want to take the part number down and confirm with a less lazy ***!

 

all newer bseries axles are the same, including GSR

 

No problem, I have gone through this twice. Its usually not worth replacing just the cv joints. A new set of axles is the smartest most effective way to lose the problems.

I have the exact same problem, i hear a ticking sound when making a left turn, its funny though cost i just replaced them about 2 months ago. So axles it is then, its all good it has lifetime warranty from pepboys... jsut really hate taking them off

 

yup that sucks. Mine only lasted a month or so. BTW, mines was for a 94 GSR. Different applications. Thanks for all the replies and i hope that this post will help someone in the future!

 

Check the inboard joint on both axles

if it was your intermedite shaft it would be broken no joints in it break you just wouldn't move

 

hey this is for hatchy92, i was wondering which side you replaced was it passenger or driver side axle. please right back this would help a lot

that kinka thing happened to me. did my gsr swap had new axles. a little while later it started clicking. i lifted it up saw a little grease but no hole or tear in any of the boots. the grease looked kinda old so i thought it was from my d-series axle cuz it was bad. a little later the problem got worse, I knew what axle it was so I took it out and the band around the boot was loose so all the grease came out. so when you get a reman axle make sure everything is good on it. don't just glance at it and say, hmm looks good throw it in.
