Default how "reliable" is the b20?

a guy told me the best way to go instead of rebuilding my b16a was to get a b20 and put my b16 head on it, or a type r. I was talking to a friend about that and he told me in a way it was better, but they dont last as long cause they were not originally made to race and run high rpm with vtec, and they were weak. He said he's heard of like b20 blocks cracking!

I am wondering if a b20 its trully the way to go, or not!

i personally don't like the b20. it all depends on what you are planning to do. if you want a good reliable street setup. look into a basic 1.8L gsr or LS/VTEC with some nice CTR or ITR pistons. with some good cams and headwork, that'll be a nice streetable car to have.

B20 is overhyped. the sleeves/cylinders have a webbing in them that are not as solid as 1.8L blocks.

The b20's are a bit weak, and aren't too good for revving up. However, there are ways (fairly cheap ways) of making it more stable at thoes high rpms.

Block posting (i say stay away from the 'block guards')
Block girdle...

slap the head on and you're set for a good amount of time.

However, after you do anything that touches the cylinderwalls... it is best that you true the cylinders by getting it boared. if you dont, the piston rings like to crack, as well as the seat, and then you have to re-sleeve the block.

However, i two would start off with a 1.8 litre block.

good luck man... and post pictures!

And, if you mate the head on the block wrong.. oh boy.
Better get a machine shop to do it.
