Default HELP! Oil Leak

ok, noticed an oil leak from cominm underneath the car. The thing that really gets me, is that this is a new engine!!!

Ok, now for the oil leak, I jacked up the car and noticed a bolt missing from the sump. I originally thought that this might be the cause. I have put a new bolt in and tightened up all the sump bolts minus the ones i can't get to!!

The oil leak "appears" to have slowed. I have throughly inspected the engine to find the source. As we all know, this is near impossible as oil leaks have a tendancy to spray everywhere. So I guess the leak could only really be the sump gasket or rear main right? Any other suspects?

I would greatly appreciate all imput..

my R was pouring out 1qt every 100 miles (yes, that is the correct number of 0's). i found a bolt missing from the motor breather box. i replaced the o-ring and the bolt and leak is gone. besides the extreme loss of oil, i could also smell the oil burning as it dripped onto the header.

i'd recommend replacing the seal in the area you are leaking from and put all the bolts back on.

can you smell oil burning at a stop light after highway miles? can you see drips where you park and figure out the approximate location of the leak?

you should clean the motor thoroughly with simple green (or substitute) and look for wet spots.

thanks guys, took it to my local today.
Pulled off the starter motor and found oil uhoh!!! I think it could either be gearbox or engine rear main seal.. anyway to tell? I'm trying to use my nose but hmm. Guess I'll have to pull the gear box off!!

ok, have found the problem. A sump bolt fell off into the tranny. The bolt got caught up in the flywheel area sending the flywheel off balance. In return it seems that there was too much stress on the tranny and a crack resulted just near the bearing.

I basically removed all gears then welded up the bell housing.

My question is..... Does the bell housing experience any major stress that I should worry about???
