Default Is the Rev-limiter on the ITR Mechanical or Electronic?

You know what I mean? is it a direct mechanical link somehow or is it based on the ECU's limit then transmitted and activated kinda similar to "Fly-By-Wire?"

Please explain. And are there ANY adverse effects of constantly relying on it for Auto-X or track racing? Could it just break or stop functioning?

One reason for the question is because I saw this Celica GTS race last time and he was just Banging it off the limiter all the way around the track. FIY though the track was a 7/8th's 1st gear for me till the ending sweeper. But this guy was just banging away from turn 1 till the finish line.

Thanks,

A.

I believe the limiter is controlled by the ecu, and it cuts fuel. Creating a lean condition at high rpm's is not something I would want to do to my car all the time read: detonation). Perhaps the Celica had a limiter that cuts the spark. Maybe he doesn't know or care about the suposed dangers. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and it's ok to hit the limiter like crazy. Try it, and report back with your findings.

I doubt ANY cars in the US come from the factory with only an ignition cut. When you only cut the ignition, unburnt fuel will get dumped out into the exhaust, which is completely unacceptable by the smog *****.

Oh yeah, I'm not sure about this, but the easiest way I can think of to cut the fuel is for the ECU to just not signal the injectors to open.

When there's only air and spark but no fuel, you don't risk detonation because it's not a lean mixture. In fact, it's not even a mixture.

It's not too bad to bounce the rev limiter once in a while, but if you're ramming into it with wreckless abandon, that's just plain abusive.
