DOHC ZC head conversion to LS Head?
I am concidering sending my ZC head when i get the motor to DH-racing.com to have them do the DOHC ZC head converion to LS head But i had a few questions first. These are questions that i sent to the company but I want hear from someone who has actually done this before.
What are the advantages to going from DOHC ZC to LS?
What kind of gains are we looking at?
If anyone knows about this please enlighten me a little
Thanks for your time.

It's not actaully putting the LS head on the block but more like converting the original one to LS Check out DH-racing.com and go to the head packages page. They got some neat stuff.

Ahhh, I see. I don't think you will see any major difference. Maybe the cams are a little more aggressive?

Here's the mojo on LS valetrain into a ZC head:
Stem diameter of the LS valves are identical with ZC... .258" intake and .256" exhaust.
Overall length is identical for the intake valves.
Overall length is .050" taller for the LS... this is extra material above the valve keeper notch, and with a set of nasty cams would only help the poor valvetrain geometry associated with regrinds.
Here's the clincher:
- LS intake valves are 1.15mm O/S, and *weigh noticeably less* than ZC intakes.
- LS exhaust valves are 1.7 mm O/S, weigh noticeably more than the ZC units.
Stock ZC valveseats can be cut to accept LS valves.
If you look at LS valvesprings (stock are jokes) compared to ZC, the ZC are much stiffer, and there is only a .050" difference in OD which is where you have spring clearance problems with the head. ZC retainers are also a lighterweight piece than LS.
I don't have valvespring seat heights on hand, sorry.
If you can get installed heights of the LS springs vs the ZC stuff, any run of the mill machine shop can assist you in fitting LS valvetrain to a ZC head, for a LOT less than $600. I'd speculate JG's dual spring setup for the ZC would fit right in, otherwise you can dremel the .050" interference out of the head to fit the LS springs.
FYI, there is an OEM Honda intake valve that is a direct replacement for and 2mm O/S from the stock LS. The exhaust vales are the same size as LS, but don't have the stupid .050" extra height over the keeper (not 100% sure of this, haven't gotten all the carbon off the face to ensure overall height). I'm more than happy to share the info with anyone *after* I lay hands on 4-5 of these "junk" engines to ensure my own personal supply of valves. In the trailerpark, we reuse stuff whenever possible.

LS camshafts are about 1 1/2" longer than ZC camshafts, so, unless there is some way to stretch the head out longer, they won't fit

Wow ok so what are you saying in a nutshell that half is not as good as the LS and half of it is better?
Also I was talking to a guy over at theZCR.com and he refered me to theoldone.com and said that the guys there can hook me up with some nice stuff for the ZC head to make it flow a lot nicer and get some horses out of the head as well. Does that sound better then trying to do an LS conversion?

The TOO board has a lot more ZC tech than anywhere else. Go to their forums and do a search, you'll be very pleased. If you wished to purchase services relating to headwork or packages for the ZC, I'd take my **** to Larry Widmer who owns/is Endyn. I poke a bit of fun at him about his blower kit that will never see the light of day, but much respect to his knowledge.
If you wanted to do a budget build, the above info will help you along. I dunno about you, but LS heads get thrown/given away by the VTEC guys all the time. A set of valves shouldn't be hard or expensive to come by.
