Stud Welder on Gastank :-/
Well, im here to collect opinions on this, I used a stud welder last night
to remove a dent the size of a chili pepper and everything went well until
i went to remove the studs. It pulled out a pin size hole and the water from
in the tank started leaking out.
Now here's my question, do you think the tank will be any less reliable if
I used a tig welder and weld some steel to it then sand it down, then bondo
and paint the tank. Im basically looking for somebody to think of something
I havent.
Just looking for opinions on the matter and if poses a problem. Thanks H-T

It will be fine if you take the necessary precautions for welding a gas tank and get a good airtight weld. From the sounds of it you are doing this yourself right (the welding)? I have never gotten and chance or I should say take the time to learn how to tig weld very well. I can mig pretty darn good though. Takes some finesse to weld thin walled stuff like a gas tank.
Be careful with the heat and you should be ok. It would help if you could get a pic of where the hole is on the tank. Some areas are hard to work with due to the bends. As busa mentioned, the thinwall is difficult to work with.
Thanks a lot guys for the cautious comments, i used your judgment and just was very carefull.... i never realized how thin the walls of a tank actually are. But now I know first hand, the tank is welded sanded primered and is getting its paint tonight.
I will be posting many images of the bikes before and after picks when im done.
