Stupid CEL
When I start my car up, the check engine light is never on. It usually stays off for about five minutes or so then turns on most of the time during deacceleration, or when the car is in gear, and my foot is off the gas. It all started last year when I did my tranny. I didn't have my speedo cable hooked up, so I thought that was it. Well, I was wring. I got a new cable, and it still does it. When I shut my car off, and turn it back on, it will be off, and then come back on again after a while, making it impossible to chack the ecu led.Can someone please help me!!!!!!!
wait so once it comes on, it doesnt stay no the entire time the car is still "on"? if not then this isnt a real code...more like a short in your wiring somewhere..but i couldnt even begin to tell you where
my intake used to rub on my battery terminal a while back during hard driving..the CEL would come on and my radio would reset...the car would bog out HARD then the CEL would go out...radio would come on, and the car would return to normal operating. My theory was that when it was shorting out my ecu getting reset while the car was beign drivin..thats not good so i fixed the "rubbing" problem

first off. pop your hood. openthe fuse box and pull the fuse marked "hazard" for 15-30 sec. Replace and then just continue using the car as normal. if the light re-appears then when you get a chance turn the car off. Pull back the carpet on the pass side foot well so you can see the metal ecu cover plate and glass window to see the LED light blink. Turn the car to ON, but do not start it. The light will light up for 2 sec then turn off. It will then flash the error codes.
1 long flash = 10
1 short flash = 1
so... 1 long flash followed immediately by 3 short would be code 13. That will tell you what is wrong.
Also, once the codes have all been displayed they will repeat, so don't be alarmed thinking you have 100000 error codes
