Default need help with starter and flywheel!!

I have a 98 r, it has a Jun lightweight flywheel on it. Every now and again when i try to start it the starter grinds and makes a horrible noise. When i called Jun the people said that the flywheel is made for the jdm spec itr's. They said on the jdm itr's the teeth on the starter are a little diffrent. Of course they didnt mention that when i bought it, anyone have any advice on how to fix that???

You can change the starter, change the flywheel, or try to ignore the occasional grinding. Actually, I seem to recall a long while back that someone had filed or somehow modified the teeth on his flywheel to eliminate the grinding, but that probably isn't something I'd personally do.

If I recall correctly, your going to need to put in a JDM starter. that should fix the occasional grinds.

Check your starter to see if it is by Denso, if it is, try to find a Mitsubo starter and change that in. But you better do it soon, because all the grinding will slowly damage the teeth on the flywheel, and it will get to a point that the damage is too much, even a Mitsubo starter won't even fix the problem
