Default mercury cougar help?

Whats up? I bought my wife a mercury cougar on monday. Today when we were driving it to the store it start acting screwy. When we drove around a corner she started accelerating it went to 30 and wouldnt go any higher. she floored it and it wouldnt speed up. i put some fuel injector cleaner in it tonight to see if it works..

any ideas?
I was also think maybe it had some bad gas in it. or needs a fuel filter car has 80,000 miles on it. thanks for the help

This isn't the place to ask about domestic cars. Go to http://www.fastcougar.com
There are many people who are willing to help you. My friend has a cougar and he learned several things from that site as well as others.

Best of luck

Didn't they tell you that Mercury is a Ford? Why do people stray from Honda and then try and ask us for help? You just bought someone's problem. Sorry man, good luck.

I dont see anything wrong with this guy posting this question in the tech forum quit being so selfish people.

Im a ford/lincoln/mercury tech and all I can say is a collapsed exhaust equaling to much back pressure or a pcm problem.

Not much to say unless i was actually working on it but heres a few ?'s for ya?

Does it shift? through all the gears are the shifts late/hard/early soft? this is assuming its an auto

any idiot lights on at all? and if you bought it from a dealership or anywhere with any kind of warranty take it back to them.

bad gas will not regulate max speed it will just feel like the car is missing and cause it to bog. did it do this when you test drove the car??? or did it just start happening?

Rock mercury-tech.com!!!We could cut down half the clutter if people realized that the best response to an idiot is to ignore them, rather than mock them and demonstrate your own idiocy.

Okay I guess its open season now and this is just a general auto diagnostic forum. Let's watch our Honda Tech:Tech forums clog up with non-Honda, non-tech threads. Especially Ford stuff since those cars are impossible to keep on the road. If the admins were doing their job they'd delete this thread the same way they delete picture topics that are outside of the appearance forum, and for the same reason. You can think i'm a dick if you want, just because I'm stating the obvious and it doesn't help your situation.

Although I was being unpleasantly sarcastic, I didn't violate my own signature. Good luck I'll leave you alone now.

I had a '75 Volkswagen van once that would go about 20mph max. Turned out to be a fuel filter that was completely clogged. It had enough fuel for first gear but once it hit second, it'd just bog.

I'd check that.
