2000 Accord coupe rear speaker fittment
I just bought a set of rear 6X9 speakers for my wife's 2000 Accord coupe. They are Infinity Kappas. I got them in, and they are too tall on top for the grill to fit over. More importantly, they are too deep and get in the way of trunk springs. I can't even close the trunk! Help!!!
the easiest thing to do is get a different set of speakers (assuming you can still return the ones you got)... a lot of people w/ all different types of cars have problems getting the infinity's to fit. any of the alpine 6x9's will fit perfectly.
if switching to a different brand of speaker isn't an option for you, you can try making a spacer to put under the bracket of the speaker, which might give you enough space to clear the trunk springs. however, this will worsen the other part of the problem, the clearance at the top of the speaker. depending on what exactly is hitting the factory grill, you may be able to trim either some of the grill, and/or some of the speaker. (friendly reminder, no guarantees)
btw, if you thought about removing the trunk springs, think again. the trunk is heavy as hell without them.
Edit: oh, and don't use the grills that came with the speakers....

What about bending the trunk springs? Do you think that's a possibility? They seem pretty close to fitting.
I bought them off ebay. No returns. Plus I bent the bottom of one of them up a little trying to close the trunk because I didn't realize the spring was in the way. I suppose I could sell them. I wonder how they would fit in my Eclipse? Hmmmmmm.

Try this along with spacers:
My aftermarkets had trouble fitting in my car, so what we did was carve some of the interior of the grill out with a dremel tool. This helped with the fitment concerning the top.
Carving out the material along with spacers should provide you with enough room

Thanks for the help guys. I finally got them in. I used washers to space them up off the trunk springs. I used weather sealer the rest of the way around the speaker. I had to buy longer bolts to hold down the speaker. The dremel tool worked nicely to remove material from the factory speaker grills. So it's all in and looks factory. Biggest pain in the *** speaker install I've ever done though.
