Engine making clicking noises
I have a 1995 Acura Integra LS and I came back from school today and when I went to start my car I noticed a weird clicking noise and immediately shut it off. So I popped the hood and has someone turn the engine over for me. It sounds stupid but it sounded like there was something in the engine bouncing around. I know that isn't the case it just sounded like that. Now I know I need to look at my timing belt to see if it needs to be replaced and I was wondering if it could have anything todo with that. Also I need to change the oil. But if the timing belt snapped it would not be able to run and I would be screwed. Right? Well if anybody has any idea just let me know. Also there is no check engine lights. Thanks.
If the timing belt snaps...you fucked. If it looks worn, replace it. Or if your motor has 100k+ on it, I would suggest replacing asap. But to address that clicking noise...you may just need a Valve Adjustment. If I were to pick a worst case scenario, it would be that you bent a valve. Have you over-revved it excessivley in the past? e.g. missed shifts, being a stunna, taking it way past redline, etc.. etc...
Well the thing is that I am trying to sell the car. I was just going to sell it for less and let them replace it. And yes the engine is over 100k+. My car is an automatic so it doesn't really go over redline and also I haven't revved it up at all recently. It actually happened when someone took the car out for a test drive while I was at school. It was pooring rain and I don't have the tire lining inside the tire hub and water got into the cold air intake. I don't know if this had anything todo with it.
Ok I finally compression tested it and here are the results. I did not start the car and let it run for 15 minutes because it runs horribly and if there is a major problem I don't want to mess up the cylinder walls or something to that affect. But I did two test an hour apart with multiple trials on each one. Here are the results.
Cylinder
#1 #2 #3 #4
Test 1 120 160 150 180
Test 2 120 150 150 170
Obviously there is something wrong with the #1 so tomorrow I am going to change the oil to see if there is any anti freeze in it. I mean I know that it could be bent valves but could it be anything else other than the headgasket? My guess is that I sucked in water and bent some valves in cylinder #1. Also is there a big enough gap between the other ones to worry about them?
