need help on vaccum canaster
ok i just swapped my d16z out for a jdm d15. on the im from the d16z a line goes to the vaccum canaster. the jdm 15 doesn't have the same port on the im. do i just need to plug it off or what. i have the hook up just hangin in by bay, and i am wonderin if this is hurting my perfromace. do i just need to plug the hose coming out of the canaster or leave it? anyhelp is appreciated. thanks

you have to host pics online to post them here.
go to http://www.imagestation.com
The reason why you dont have a hose for the charcol canister is because jdm cars dont have them. So just plug it or figure out how to hook to up to your engine if you have to worry about emmisions testing. Because they may hit you on that.

yeah i just signed up with http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com so picks will be up tonite. however, i don't have emissions in tn so that's no the prob. but there is some kindof sensor with wires hooked up to the vaccum line that went from the im to the canaster what is that?
i will tell you exactly what you are talking about, its the very top hose from the charcol canister that says #5 on it right, it goes to the evap purge solenoid that jdm motors do not have, the car will run fine with out it, and yes if you want to use it you will need to make a vacuum port on the intake manifold. i just did this for my car because i needed it to pass state ref to get BAR sticker
my friend and i just swapped out a jdm b16 throttle body for a usdm LS on his jdm b16(because the stock TPS was destroyed). the usdm has no nub for the coal box hose but we plugged it up. right now the car idles like your standard vaccum leak. bouncing from 800-1300 rpm at idol. any ideas where there maybe a vaccum problem to fix??
Don't tap a new hole, just use a t fitting on an existing line, like your FPR vacuum line. It will help your gas mileage and it doesn't hurt performance, probably helps it. It's fuel purge, it collects evaporated fuel from when your car is sitting and lets them into your engine when you're cruising.
ok so the sensor means nothing right? and if i use a t fitting what do i do with the sensor? that makes sense but were do i need to hook it up to?
The charcoal canister in the engine bay is the vent for the gas tank. Back in the day as gas expanded in the tank Hydrocarbons needed to vent so they were just vented into the atmosphere. Now a days there are laws against stuff like that so vacuum from the intake manifold is used to pull the extra HC's from the gas tank to be stored into the charcoal canister. During highway crusing with good vacuum in the intake manifold these extra HC's are sent into the motor and are burned. You don't really want to plug the Evaperative Purge canister, you want to either find a ported vacuum source on the intake manifold or just let it be open because your gas tank will not be able to vent.
well that is what it is doin, the mechanic who installed the motor wasn't sure what it was for so he left it hangin, and i have too for like a month, but i was just curious on what it's function is.
