i'm confused about b16 axles, someone help
Okay, the car is an 89 crx si. I ordered a b16 w/y1 tranny from hmotorsonline. It comes with the siR axles i believe. Will these bolt right up on my car or am I going to have to get different ones.. I'm also confused on the final drive on the transmission..
the y1 is 4.266
j1/s1 is 4.400
what will the rpms be in 5th gear at 70mph with each tranny? anyone know? I know there was a calculator for these transmissions somewhere online but I can't remember where I saw them.

The pass SiR will work but the drivers side will not. The Y1 intermediate shaft will require hybrid drivers side axle (y1 intermediate shaft is about a inch too long). Best thing to do would be to get a 90-93 Integra intermediate shaft and run 90-93 axles. You could order axles from hasport or raxles but to me thats way to expensive and if you break one you have drop $400 on new ones rather than just going to autozone and picking up one for $60.
i agree. do what i did sell the siR axles and buy the integra axle set up (axles, halfshaft). Then the siR axles become someone elses problem.

the half shaft is an extension from the trans to the drivers side cv shaft
b series motors have the half shaft because it helps to eliminate torque steer from having two different length shafts

so thats why my stock d16 had really bad torque steer when i mashed the gas?
is the half shaft a part that is replaced regularly like the axles? or is it a non wearing part?

I got a hasport mount kit coming with my motor. I would still feel better if someone with the Y1 setup would chime in and say what they are running for axles, that hasport page has a lot of info, but it doesn't give me a definite answer in there..
someone needs to just make a chart.

for some people the b16a axles work fine with their car and then some people have to use integra axles...I dunno if it depends on the tranny or what...cuz my buddy's swap the axles that came with the swap the driverside was 2" too long and a 90 integra axle seems to be a perfect fit
I too would like the low down on this problem...this is also another reason why I'm just droppin a ZC in my civic

im using the hasport EFb1 mount kit, and im running an S1...maybe thats why mine fit...tho they did last long...theyre already busted so ill be getting some new teg axles asap
im running the hasport kit, and 90-93 integra axles as well as the 90-93 integra intermediate shaft... fits perfect and i can get lifetime warranty replacement axles at autozone for 65 bucks.
and someone asked about the intermiate shaft being a wear item... its not a wear item like axles, it should last the life of the vehicle, but just like all moving parts, they may eventually fail.
the Y1 tranny comes with a 4.266 final drive, it should be good for turbo. even with that final drive, its a bit shorter than the hydro gsr tranny. if i remember correctly it should top at at about 146 @ 8k while the gsr tops out at 156 @ 8k and the s1 @ 136 @ 8k this is with 22.8" tires
