d16y8 main girdle/caps on d16y7?

d16y8 main girdle/caps on d16y7?
i have a spare y8 block and i'm wondering if i can just put the y8 main girdle on my y7 w/o taking out the internals [ie: taking my caps off and putting the y8 stuff on with my bearings]
does this sound like a good idea? i am gonna measure the bores and see that they are the same size. are there any other precautions i should take or am i just an idiot
