I just bought this 89 Lude SI 4WS for $500, well I finally made it to the track tonight. Here is some info: The car is bone stock 120,000 Miles, It has the factory intake, which probably has factory filter
. Spare tire, all interior, 10 disc changer, 10 JL and AMP. Oh yeah, and me. Lets face it I'm not a Super Model, so Chaching add another 200LBS. +10 Because I'm Lying
. The car also has stock rims and Bladadeda tires. Well heres the Info.
1st run: 2k Launch 6,500 Shifts
Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green KY, 1/4 Mile time 5:33 PM 11/May/2004.
R/T .221
60 2.611
330 7.348
1/8 11.233
MPH 62.82
1000 14.603
1/4 17.421
MPH 81.32
2nd run was a .092 R/t 2.671 60ft 17.443 1/4 @ 81.50 MPH... 7k Shifts
3rd run they ran a PRO Tree. I didn't get a time slip, wasn't really prepared for it.
4th run .205 RT... 2.682 60ft... 17.4 1/4 @81.59
5th run 7k shifts, 3k Launch 17.4 @80.05 MPH ... 60 ft was 2.747
6th run 7K shifts, 4k Launch:
R/t .123
60 ft 2.550
330 7.189
1/8 11.037
MPH 63.35
1000 14.361
1/4 17.160
MPH 80.55
The next step is to add the aftermarket Intake, drop the factory exhaust, rip out the interior, and everything else that needs to go. Complete fluids change, all needed replacement parts. Start fixing the minor front body damage. All this before the next run.
My major Question would be where can I get aftermarket parts for this car???
My future plans for this car are to turbo charge it, blow it up, then try an H22 swap.
Thanks in advance for future replies.

Yuppers, they've said it already!! haha, get those 60 ft times WAY down. Launch a lot higher. You'll prolly get a lot more wheel hop and/or tire spin, but you can control that by feathering!
I was launching my car n/a at around 5500 rpm. Give it a shot.

Most aftermarket for the 3rd gen Prelude's are custom done.
You can use an intake off an Integra LS without having to relocate the battery. Chikara and Paceshitter make headers for the 3rd gens. The only company who makes exhaust is Thermal R&D and it is $500... get a custom one for $250 and call it a day. Suspension can be found most larger places (www.optauto.com and eBay are best). H&R Springs and Tokico Blues are a very good combo.

As for the replies so far, remember this car has no mods, it has set for a while ( I did drive it for a while before burning it in at the track). The tires suck, I agree there. When I launched at 4k I felt the clutch trying to gain catching traction, not the tires, so a racing clutch is a must.
Also I removed the stock intake today, and found 5lbs of food for mice, so I think it will definately open up next time. Does anyone know of a good pipe size for the Exhaust? I plan on running straight pipe from the header. They don't do emissions here
and its only going to be a track car. I was thinking 2 or 2 1/2, how well would 2 1/2 scavage?
Also thanks Mario for the upgrade tips. They will be very useful. and thanks for all your other replies.
As for the 3 Preludes, the 92 S is my daily driver with several mods, 92 SI is in for a new paint job, and the I bought the 89 so I could have some fun.

On my 89 Prelude I have a 2.5" catback exhaust... and it feels like a bit overkill on a stock engine. My recommendation: do a 2" or 2.25" mandrel bent... nice and clean muffler that will flow decently. Unless you plan on doing over 200whp any time soon, those exhausts fit the b20a motors great.
Also, do a header upgrade... there's been dyno of about 14whp gain just with the header. The stock ones are restricted severely. You can do a Chikara header for about $180 shipped. When you get it, sandblast and ceramic coat it yourself... the OEM paint will burn off, but that's about the only header choice we have as DC stopped production.

Sweet, another 3rd genner.
Yes, I wouldn't go with Paceshitter... I think Chikara would be a much better choice.

kick *** another 3rd gen around here.
as far as mods, gladman still makes a cold air intake. but you gotta relocate the battery.
i did find another solution to that though, because of where my gladman intake sits, if you get a small battery like a NRG-cell, you can turn it and move it back by the brake proportioner assembly.
have yet to try that though, so dont take my word thats its guaranteed to fit, i just supect that it will.
as far as exhaust, ive got custom with 2.25 inch piping all the way back, with a UNiversal N1, and i love it
can be loud if i get on it, but i can keep it somewhat quiet when i want to.... and when i want to avoid tickets around here
i also have it mounted N1 style as well.
im running Neuspeed Race Springs, with tokico blues, and i LOVE IT
may be a bit low for some people taste...but it handles fuckn great.
Enjoy and get some pics in the picture thread

I have pulled the factory intake system out, and started the weight reduction. So far I have weighed in 109 lbs, lost. There are a lot of parts that have not been weighed yet. I will be a lot higher # when I am done with the first stage. I consider 1st stage interior, all interior looks, trunk lining, seat belts, seat, back seats door panels spare tire, etc. . 2nd stage will be removing metal such as rear speaker deck, Jack holder, eventually all metal in the doors. I will not remove safety bars in doors. I'm not that crazy.
I will start on the 3rd stage when I get my times way down, I consider 3rd to be changing out glass, structural changes taking out major heavy weight components and adding lightweight strong materals. One step at a time though. Let me know what light weight ideas you guys have.

2.25" for the catback is perfect, i have it on my 3rd gen, and i love it! didnt even notice any loss in low end power, i would also upgrade ur brakes too, i got brembo crossdrilled rotors with EBC green stuff pads, car stops much better. a nice drop helps a lot too, 1.25" with suspension techniques and tokico blues, have yet to take her to the track, but now i have a goal to hit! def get some tires too! bring that 60ft time down nicely, i am runnin yokohama tires on honda alloys, and i love the traction, tires grip extremely well!
