Does a rod knock render your block beyond repair?

Does a rod knock render your block beyond repair?
My 94 B18B came down with a bad case of rod knock a while back (hence I swapped in a B20). I was told if you have a knock, the problem is the crank, and the motors junk (in an email from DH Racing, eBay co.). I was under the assumption I could just replace the rod bearings and it should be good to go.
Any advise? The motor had 160k on it, but was exceptionally cleaned. It did have the head gasket replaced at around 130k., which could be why it looked so clean inside the head.
What would the typical repair be? How much could I get for the long block (less everything) as-is?

I not a pro or anything, but the only time rod knock has to do with the block is when the rod siezes to the crank and put a hole in the block. lol
The noise you are hearing is caused by too much play between the rod and the crank it has nothing to do with the block. Part of a complete rebuild is to inspect the crank and get the journals back to servicing condition, but I guess if you manage to mess it up too much, the crank will be beyond repair, in which case you would find a new one.
