Default Dyno'd my R today - 172.8 WHP

I dyno'd my car today and max power was 172.8 WHP. My mods are 1-piece head gasket, JDM 4-1 header, intake, stock exhaust w/ test-pipe and a chipped P28. Do my numbers sound about right? This was all done on a Dyno-Jet.

I got 172 with a Comptech Icebox as the only mod. What was your torque?

Nice enough #'s for stock exhaust.

172 with just an Icebox? That's a strong ITR.

Yeah no chit. I also got 125tq, which is like 150 at the flywheel.

I actually lied about my mods (or just forgot) - I also had my timing advanced a few degrees. Pretty sure with some VAFC tuning I could get over 190 at the wheels.

I think the difference is the way I broke mine in. There's a lot of 'blasphemy' circulating around that says engines will benefit in the long run from being beat on (relatively speaking) during the break-in period.

Makes sense to me - I bought my ITR in CT, then drove 400 miles down to DC at 90-120 mph the whole way, foot the floor mostly. Car is very fast and doesn't burn crazy amounts of oil, even 3 years later.

What were your torque numbers? With a decent exhaust you could make a lot more power.

Damn, your R is a freak. My R made 2 WHP more with these 60 dollar spark plugs. I ended up not buying them because I didn't think it was worth it. What else do you think I should do to get my R with stock cams in the 190's?

Swap out the stock exhaust and get a VAFC and do some tuning.

Just curious, what kind of wheels are you using? If you're using big, heavy wheels, that can also take away a little power. Also taking off the Power steering belt is a nice "free" mod that helps..

I have 17" Volk GTN's. How much do you think a VAFC could help? What are some average gains with it?

what was your base line? without a baseline, it doesn't really tell you how much power you made with your setup. I mean for all you know that the dyno was reading lower numbers than usual... or vice versa.

Most ITRs are slow when compared with his. So are a good portion of the world's motorcycles.

Oh, BTW - What RJ said. *pow*

Hmm. I'm no expert, but I'd say get an exhaust (A real 2.5" one like SMS would make assloads of power), a VAFC (+5hp or so depending on tuner) and you should be close. Maybe a fuel pressure regulator too. Good luck.

I never got a baseline, so I have no idea how much I gained. How much of a difference could a dyno be reading from another dyno?

I've actually decided not to get an exhaust. I can't stand the noise anymore. I must be getting old. So a VAFC could gain me +5 whp? I've got a fuel regulator and guage already. It's probably going to be difficult to reach 190 whp with stock cams and a JDM 4-1 header. I guess I would be satisfied with +180 whp. My R is already a blast to drive.
