To be honest, BOTH of these quesitons are dependant upon build quality.

true cuz that block isnt made to rev that high and the valvetrain is way more aggressive then that block is made to handle

 

I have this setup.

Block: 85mm stock bore, 11:1 CR JE pistons, shotpeened stock rods

Head: CTR cams, portflow inners & ITR outers

I take it to 8-8.4K daily without any problems for over 8K miles. Torqe + Fast Revs = Bliss

Im sure you do have this setup, but you fail to mention, to this person how clearly knows little about this setup, how important it is that the motor is built VERY well teh FIRST time or you WILL have problems. There is VERY little room for error in b20vtec buildups. No two ways about it. It's not as simple as "b20 block, b16 head".

 

Well assuming he knows the concept of a B20vtec and/or he's gonna take it to someone that know what they're doing - the build will be just like any other motor rebuild.

B20/LSvtec motors cons:

-shitty strokes
-limited revs
-no oil squirters
-weak cylinder walls (for the B20)
-needs head tapped and vtec oil line
-recommended crank girdle for high RPM

If you take these issues in consideration, the rest should be okay. Just make should you or your builder know what you guys are doing. 14toda, there are lots of threads on the B20vtec - search.

 

it's all in how you build it. if you don't half *** anything and build it properly it will last, ideally just as well as any built engine, so do your homework. but when you and your inbred cousin build an engine on a stretched budget in 20 minutes in your backyard, it's not going to be very reliable. most of the people (not all) who blow one up can relate to that in some way or another.

please search, i've read dozens of threads about b20/vtec & ls/vtec.

if your asking this question i would try to stay away from that motor...too much fabrication so you really have to know your **** if you want it to come out right. When done right it comes out VERY nicely but ive seen a lot of ppl not do it right and screw it up. Go with the b18c yo!

 

im still debating on what motor to get.. but ls/b20 vtec was a consideration...
