My 5 doller DIY rear limp paint job
Hey guys. I recently got a rear lip for my 97 honda civic DX and didn't have the money to get it professionally painted. So I headed down to walmart and got a 3 dollar can of duplicolor silver paint and a 1 dollar bottle of the cheapest primer they had. I then came home painted the lip. I sprayed it one coat of primer and one coat of the silver paint (since it was a small bottle I couldn't do 2 coats). It took me about 30 minutes to paint. Here is the result, it is ALOT better than I expected. When I showed my friends the new lip, they didn't even notice they DIY paintjob and just thought I got it done by a body shop. Here is a picture of it done and installed...

It's only put on with this tape like material that came with the lip. I am weary about using any bolts because I like to have all my mods to be easily removed incase I want to sell it someday.

i really doubt a rear lip will take away from the value of your car.
that or find some better tape cause that looks like ****

Use a bolt washer and nut on each side where the lip curves up towards the center of the bumper. All you'll have is two little holes that you won't ever see unless you crawl under the car. Take the double stick tape off too.....all you need are the two bolts and two self tapping screws in each fenderwell. It will be nice and tight, straight and solid. Trust me, I had the exact same lip on my 97 coupe.

Sweet, thanks for the advice. I'll do that, cause I'd feel more secure knowing it's not going to fly off while I'm driving down the freeway

you should get another coat on that.. and clear it.. then clean it up by doing a bit of wetsanding with some 1000+ grit paper. then it'll look 10x better dude.

good job, but i'd recommend buying a can of $4 clear coat and going over it twice with some clear....that will give it a pretty damn good finish since it's such a small painted surface
I'd have to agree with everyone else. It looks dull and you can tell you painted it yourself when compare to the rest of the car. Theres some good DYI on painting using a wetsanding technique on this board somewhere. It'll give it that extra shine along with some clearcoat.
