Default considering gsr swap, but h22 not looking bad at all

i want the gsr, but the h22 is cheaper and is beefier. i've heard that there are driveability problems with the h22 swap and that i would have to loose my a/c and p/s, could someone explain what all would have to be done in order for this swap to work in my 98 civic? and is it true that i would have to lose my a/c and p/s? thanx a bunch

I have seen lots of N/A H22s put down some serious power, you can't go wrong either way

yup. i'm wondering how much extra money i'm gonna have to spend for the shop to install the engine right. so if you've got a 96-00 civic, and got the h22 swap, what extra stuff did you have to buy for the proper install, and about how much was it? i know once i do get it in, and everything works right, i'll be very pleased .

thanx for the link, yah it helped me a lot. i believe that i am going to do the h-series swap, but which one should i get? the type-s. i was reading previous posts about the h-series motors and there are like 4 different ones, some with factory lsd, and others were optional. i've read a lot of people dising the h-series; something about it's sooo heavy, blah blah blah and your gonna spend the same amount of money as you would for a gsr blah blah blah it's not worth it blah blah blah. but, i think that it will for sure be worth it.

a h22 swap may be cheaper at first (for the motor), but you gotta think about mounts, custom axles, etc.

I put a 99 gsr in my eg in 8 hours (first swap-plug and play with skunk manni and chipped p28) no extra money for swap. Used all gsr mounts, shift linkage and axles.

My cuz put a h22 into his eg, took 2 days to swap+engine bay and shifter prep.
Plus 1-2 weeks to trouble shoot. Ended up bring it to a shop because he used a 00 sh motor (obd2 dizzy wiring into obd1 = head ache). In the end cost A LOT more then what he wanted to spend.

PS. After the car was running right he was VERY happy with it. So its all really on you. H22 into a ek is easier, but still not as easy as a b-series. Not sure if you have to cut a whole for the shifter cables or not (in the eg you do). But the tq is pretty nice tho, really nice for daily driving.

OH yea a/c and p/s are for cumps. hahaha. My car is black with no ac in socal. gets really hot, but thats why cars have windows that you can roll down.

yah, i plan on having a shop put in the motor and doing everything that needs to be done. i don't think i'll be able to do it myself. plus they'll know what extra stuff i'll need instead of me looking up everything and possibly not getting the right stuff. plus if they make a mistake, they'll fix it and get it right. so i mean, if i'm spending about the same as much money for the h22 as the gsr, i might as well have a bigger motor and be a little faster. i'm not hating or anything, i'm just giving my opinion. yah, i plan on losing a/c.

or you have have other honda-tech members help you with the install or even put it in for you. you would have to pay them of course but it'll beat bring it to a shop. my 2 cents.

H22

The only real advantage the B series motors have had over the years was aftermarket support... Now with the aftermarket avilability for the H motors almost up to par with the B series the playing field is leveling and now looking to slope in the direction of the big block H motors. Your starting to see 230-240WHP motors with all honda bottom ends, something the B motors cant do... Im not even going to discuss the torque differences... THere are also a series of companies scrambling to get the B series trans adapters out there to enable you to run a B tranny on an H motor... The H tranny has always been the weak point but now with adapter plates available and the ever growing B series gear options the H motor is starting to look too good to pass up...

K, H then B... My order of choice
