Default Location of block vin number

I already did a search and didnt find what I was exactly looking for but here is my question. I'm talking to a guy right now about buying a b18c1 block and I'm asking him where the VIN # is on the block and he can't find it, does anybody know where its located? I thought there was some sort of tag at the edge of the oil pan but I may be wrong because he can't find it. I hope its not stolen because it seems like a good deal.

the vin number is towards the bottom of the block on the front side. if it's a 94 or 95 B18C1 it won't come with VIN tags at all.

oh that number would be the block serial number. i've heard they can look up the VIN number through the block number. if it's a 97 then there should be a VIN number.
