Default 108,300 guess what count this represents...

thats how many spectators were at this mornings formula one race in Spain... now how crazy is that... imagine trying to cramp that many people around a 1/4 mile track.... INFUCKINCREDIBLE...

now to make it import drag related... what do the sanctioning bodies need to do to increase spectator numbers at the events??

great marketing question, we should all be brainstorming towards a more grassroot drag racing association catered to our preferences and not conformed to what the sanctioned bodies are pushing on us. Remember, the customers (passionate drag racers/us) are the reason why this industry exist and will evolve, with pioneers and innovaters molding this still in an infant stage sport.... what happened to the credo "for the racers, by the racers?" this must be the standard basis.

Just kidding.

I think more media exposure will help. Re-evaluate the gate prices. Most kids dont have 20-40 bucks just to get in.

wow i cannot agree enough on the price concern... i believe that to be very very true... not every teenager has enough money like that to be able to spend on a ticket on top of gas to get there in the first place.. should I even bother mentioning the food prices??

ps.. i had to edit this because i just remembered a small detail from the last e town event... i remember reading that the prices for spectators was going to be 15 dollars on sunday... when i got to the gates the ticket guy was like 40 dollars i had asked for 2 tickets... i understand that 20 bucks is more than worth it but on the ads it said it was going to be 15 dollars to get in and watch some good racing.... not 20. i still paid the 40 for the 2 tickets tho..

Once the classes start to fill, I think the stands will start to fill.

Its like Nascar, most people that go to those races are not heavy into cars and go just becuase its popular and something to do. That racing has been around alot longer and has had longer time to marinate and get noticed. Just give import drag racing more time, if you compare import drag racing to any other form of racing, import racing has advanced alot faster in its infancy than any other form of racing in my opinion w/ cable coverage and mag coverage and all. There are atleast 25 import related magazines out there. 4 diffrent t.v channels covering it.....etc.......

Lowering prices at the gate a must! Yes we need more faster cars not just a few very fast ones. The Sanctioning bodys have the power to do this. I understand they want to make money but they should use there influences to have sponsors pick up more racers. They try but I dont believe it is enough. And im talking about picking up the expenses like gas food hotel and maybe a little extra. You wont believe how many shoestring budget racers cant make it becasue its gonna cost 1500 bux just to get there and back.(and then they get there to find out the rules continue to change and that they cant even keep up with it) If I knew that a non-H pattern tranny was gonna be allowed this year I would not have spent my money on my car this winter, but would have dropped back into the Street class where my parts are legal w/o having to spend more money than I can afford. If the Sanctioning bodys did more for the racers the rest will follow....More Racers=more spectators=more $$$ (theyll probably still be able to keep the gate prices the same, maybe)

NOPI NATS in ATLANTA 2003 - Over 100,000 people (Not even a race)

How to do it.......

1)Spend a million dollars in advertising (magazne/Radio/TV) over 16 years
2)Spend another million dollars in printing over 16 years
3)16 years of handing out and mailing out millions of flyers all over the country.
4)Get lucky with the weather
5)Try your best to be fair and treat everyone with respect

Easy....

Just Give the NDRA a little time... We're working on it! You can bet on that! We've done it before.... We'll do it again....

I personaly like the nopi events better because there are more cars racing there and there is usually a better turnout than the NHRA events when they do come to town. The way thier rules are also set-up make it a little more affordable to participate as a racer.

NHRA will have some problems with attendance this weekend at ATCO. Why? Becuase the Carlisle Custom Compact show is going on in Harrisburg, PA this weekend as well. That is a huge car show, NHRA would have been better off at Maple Grove this weekend as the car show is only 30 minutes from there. They could have drawn people from that event on Sunday for their car show and eliminations.

I will be curious to see what the numbers end up as for ATCO. They will at least have the Puerto Rican crowd that is faithfull to ATCO so that should still help them out. That will save them.
