what is the best Transmission for the SOHC Civic
ok i am about the buy a transmission for my 96 civic and i was wondering with would be the best for my car. I have nitrous, header,2.1/4 pipeing and skunk2 cam if this helps any. but this will be my third transmission.
well the 96 and later trannies have better shift forks, the 92-95 trannies have cast aluminum shift fork that are prone to breakage especially if you shift hard.
I used to have a 96 cx and it had som many different trannies I stopped counting them. My favorite one was a Del sol sohc vtec tranny. It has the shortest gears for a hydro d seies tranny that I know. It will have great acceleration.
As far as it being the 3rd tranny, I found that they always break the main input shaft bearing. The reason why is that they have a plastic bearing cage. When you launch hard the gear shafts walk and the input shaft is slammed into the bearing. Its easy to break those bearing so if you want to avoid it then dont launch or shift hard.
