M2K4 Transmission?

Picture of the tranny. I found some french website or something that mentioned this tranny but I didn't recognize the prelude model they were referencing.
This was supposed to be a vtec tranny that came with my H22A but I think I might have gotten screwed?
Its funny...I have had this setup for 3 years in my Accord now but since the motor is going into the civic I needed to get new axles. One of the questions on the axle form was "transmission code". Looking at that is when I realized that tranny doesn't seem to be in any of the faq's/lists on here.
Anyways, the tranny is not LSD, bolts up to the H22A perfectly, and uses the regular ACT clutch with no problems. The spacing also seems to be fine as far as the axles go (but aren't all the prelude/accord trannies pretty much interchangable? I guess that might not prove anything).
The gears are pretty short. It revs pretty high in 5th on the freeway and when I am getting on the gas 1st gear is one of those 'instant shift' situations. Also, it seems to line up with stock vtec RPM's decently...if I shift right at redline I can keep it in vtec the entire way through. If I hesitate for a split second though it will drop slightly out of vtec.
I don't know if any of that helps?

Yea I think you are right.
I definately need to find out the specs on this though (for my AEM EMS setup...and also for general parts availability).
Since I have had this setup for so long it's not like I can do anything about it if I did get ripped off...but either way I would like to know.
Thanks.

from what i can find the M2K4 tranny is indeed form a prelude chasis and comes pared with a h23a2 engine. i will serach around for some gear ratios but im guesing it is similiar to the m2s4 tranny gear ratios. it think the M2K4 was in lithuaina (sp?) from what i can find. will post more if i find more

and yes as far as what i have seen almost all accord and prelude trannys of the same generations are interchangable, ie accord bolts to prelude and prelude to accord

So basically I got a H23 tranny?
Figures...chalk another one up for JDM Club
****, that sucks. I mean, I am going turbo so I suppose the longer gears may not be a problem, but I don't like getting ripped off either.
Thanks for the info.

i can't say for sure 100% that you have the h23 tranny, honda is crazy like that, they change stuff around, so the m2k4 might have shorter gear ratios than the m2s4 but not as short as the m2f4, i can't find any gear ratios ,
Well, I coulda SWORE that I checked the tranny code when I got the motor and it checked out...but I can't find any substantial info on it now.
Oh well either way nothing I can do now.

Well, that tranny seems geared pretty short as it is...not sure if I would really want it going through the gears any faster than it does now.
But of course the h23 tranny isn't worth as much as the h22 so I kinda feel screwed.
Thanks guys.

The diffrence is not that noticeable b/w a H23 and a H22 tranny.
how do i know? I had both of them.
Story: I broke the differential of my old tranny (M2S4) and decided on replacing the entire tranny instead with a M2B4. Since the FD are the same b/w the two transmission i can hardly feel any difference besides the LSD and 5th gear which is a couple hundreds rpms lower at freeway crusing speeds on the M2B4 than my old tranny.
I would take either transmission, but as you stated earlier the H23 trannies are worth less than an H22 tranny for some odd reason.

those codes aren't correct.
THe Euro-R is T2W4,
The S-spec tranny is M2Z4
I hate misonformation...where did you get this from?

First off, Ronal Bears are the ****
Anyways, yea I don't believe the gearing to be that far off...and some people have even said with my expected hp numbers the longer gears could be beneficial...but my problem of course is that I bought a vtec tranny.
I checked some old auctions on ebay and the h22a tranny goes for A LOT more than the h23.
Well, I am saving up for a quaife as we speak. As long as the ACT holds I guess I won't have to worry about the transmission again
Is there a way I can verify that the gearing is in fact the same as a M2S4? Counting teeth? Or is there a better way?

Bump because I don't need to get attacked for not searching...
I just picked up one of these transmissions today at a junkyard. Came out of an H23A1 4WS Prelude... the combination adds up, but not for it being in an American 'yard, in a left-hand drive car. You think it's more likely a swap, or just an undocumented (at least on the forums) car/engine/trans combo for the US? The Prelude didn't look modified except for some eBay projector headlights, so I feel like they probably wouldn't have bothered with an overseas trans. Looks like these came with two different final drive options, so I'm really hoping for that 4.2.
