Default ABS and 4ws warnings lights.

The ABS and 4WS warning lights on my 1991 2.3 auto prelude come on after a few minutes from starting. ABS light always comes on first. Once the lights are lit ABS and 4WS no longer function.

any ideas what it could be?

do preludes have ECU error codes... if so where abouts is the ecu?

cheers

christian

I'm not sure about the 4WS light. But have you checked the Brake Fluid for the ABS. I know because both my Brake Light and ABS light came on, on my prelude and after I topped off the Brake fluid and the ABS it went off.

Also take note of your D4 Light (Drive 4), Does it flash also, if so you probably have a tranny code. My 92 SI would do the same thing. It was a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor. Oh yeah, there are like three speed sensors on the tranny. Hopefully this will help. Good Luck.

hi,

no this light remains steady thruout a journey :S.

It cant be anything too major cos it works for a bit until something seems to go click behind the dash and it stops.

Don't worry about the 4WS light right now. If your ABS goes out it shuts off the 4WS... ABS problems can be a bunch of things. Pull a code. Is the Brake light on as well? You know the one, it comes on when you have the ebrake on....
Believe it or not it still could be low fluid. Mine was just about at the full line and I topped it off and it fixed the problem. Sometimes the sensors are a little too sensitive.

Every car with an ECU will store error codes. You can pull the ABS code and let us know what you come up with.

Here is how you get the codes. ABS light will flash out the codes just like the CEL does.

Is there a write up on how to get the codes on the 4th gens, engine codes and 4ws codes. I searched but none are very detailed like the one with the link above!

You can retrieve codes from the 4WS system, You use a jumper wire on the same terminal you use to check comp codes, It will flash Engine codes through the Check engine light, Tranny codes through the D4 on autos, and 4WS light flashes 4WS codes. I can will try and put a code list on here later. If you have any specific codes, I will be glad to tell you as well. As for the ABS problem, that originated on this post, you could have a bad sensor at one of your wheels, might do a visual inspection, just to make sure everything looks ok. If you recently had an axle replaced it might not have the ABS on/off gear on it. Just some more thoughts I had
