Such thing as performance exhaust with close to stock sound ?
I have to keep the sound as close to stock as possible for certain reasons.
I know they make silencers and exhausts that are spose to be quiet AND performance.
I'm just wanting to know if anyone has any experience with an exhaust that was close to the stock quiet sound and actually improved performance,
or if they know which brands/models of exhausts boast to be the very quiet and are actually proven performance exhausts. dyno charts or whatever.
thanks all

Custom bent exhaust so you can choose your components. First of all, get a decent diameter exhaust pipe for your engine. If its a 1.5 or 1.6 with stock cams and no forced induction, you want 2inch ID. This may be 1-3hp shorter at the peak than a larger exhaust, but a better overall gain. If you want that extra .25hp, you can order up some mandrel bends from JC Whitney.
Secondly, get the longest Magnaflow or other straight through design muffler that you can fit. I think I have 14inch, 18inch long is really pushing it especially if you have a swaybar.
Third, you want the longest straight through design resonator you can get. I have a Cherry Bomb from Autozone. You will want the side that is smooth facing your engine.
If your engine is heavily modded, that might not be quiet enough for your liking, so you can get some exhaust insulator wrap that will trap the heat in the pipe giving you more power, and absorb some of the vibration making it quieter, but possibly shortening the life of the pipe if it traps in moisture. But who cares, the pipe is cheap, right?
Thats pretty close to my setup. It's about as quiet as when I put the intake on and still had the stock exhaust. Very very sleeper. I'm planning to reroute my exhaust and just have a straight pipe of course retaining the muffler, resonator, and cat converter, with some heat shielding for the gas tank, but I'm not to sure how I'm going to fit the muffler under there.
