I have a 12w6v2 that i bought recently ..right now i have a weak pos amp pushing it... rf 600w 2channel amp..must be getting weaksauce 3-400 rms watts bridge...the amp too weak...be getting real hot and doesn't bass that goood...well me and my brother went to bestbuy to just buy a amp to test and return it...got the biggest one they had overall ..which is this Rockford Fosgate P800.2 AMP..which was 2000 watts max, and 800rms watts bridge....well we bridged it,...and it bassed pretty damn good only thing is, the amp couldnt handle it either..gain was all the way up and it was overheating like hell..i'm thinkin of getting a JL Audio 500/1 Class D amp..what u guys think? its expensive i kinda want something cheaper but i heard the 500/1 is ownage
how do you have the voice coils wired up? you do know that the gain is not a volume control right?
anyways i will let the audio gurus in here help ya.

no amp will ever be worth its price if you don't have a clue on how to use it. the amp can "handle" things just fine, it's just that you are forcing it to shut down by using (well abusing) it
set your gain properly and you won't have a problem

basically things fail when they are pushed beyond their limits. what i suspect could be happening is the sub is wired in parallel and because the sub is only available in a dual 4 ohm VC you're trying to run the amps bridged at 2 ohms which its not rated for. go back to the store and test teh same amp with the voice coils wired in series so you've got an 8ohm load. the amp should be putting out roughly 400 watts and with teh gain set propetly the amp shouldnt go into protect mode. It shouldnt even get overly warm depending on the design, i have no experience with fosgate amps so i'm not sure.

You cannot bridge a RF amp into 2 ohms they can only do 4 ohm mono. You can either rewire the sub or simply run the sub off of one channel in 2 ohms to the sub

you can...but its not stable so it will overheat unless theres a protection circuit that senses the impedence of the speakers its gonna get really hot really fast.

Well whats the point of running an amp thats not stable and going to overheat every 10 mins!!!! Its not 4 ohm stable mono!!!

Did you not read anything he wrote in the original post or what i responded with??
and i think you mean 2 ohm stable mono.

Good catch, yes I mean RF 2 channel amps are not 2 ohm stable mono!!

exactly. which is why when he tested both of them they ran really hot until they shut off. I never recommended that he buy that amp and run it at 2 ohms bridged
