Default Dyno numbers with cams?

I have a friend with a Type R with stage cams (not sure what type) with a port/polished head, extrude honed intake, HKS hyper dragger exhaust, headers, AEM Intake and some custom engine management. What type of dyno numbers are you guys getting with cams? He's trying to get the car running right, but he's only getting around 185 Hp.

Well, you need to know what cams they are... Cuz there are many different kinds. Some are super aggressive, and some are mild. They will give you totally different numbers.

I believe that he's got Jun Type 3 cams.

Ok, then I'll guess 1 million horsepower.

LOL! I told him that it all depends on how many Jun stickers he had to go with the cams. But in related news, I found some dyno plots with Jun cams and it seems that he is making some normal power.

He's also got some cam gears coming. How much gains should he expect from this. Also, during the dyno tune, he got some about 6 Hp gain when he had the shop dyno fan directly over the intake manifold. It seems like the heat elimination does the job. What would you guys suggest to retain this cooling effect other than the normal heat wrapping?

It's all subjective and related to the individual; car, tuning, atmospheric changes, the alignment of the moon and stars, etc. Guessing is guessing is guessing. If you found some graphs that someone else with a similar setup posted then you'll have a ballpark figure but, again nothing remotely accurate.

Reroute the AC to blow cold air into the intake.

PS peak numbers can lie.

PPS actually searching around might provide you with some general ideas instead of you posting up vague guessing setups and wondering "what if and what do you think it could put down or gain". Bench tuning is much like bench racing. Neither are a passtime I find entertaining.

All true statements, GreyTeg. I'm only posting because my friend, who doesn't really post on forums much, was confused. I'm currently looking for some graphs, like the one I found. I figured; where else to ask questions about my friend's concern other than a notable Type R forum? We're talking about comparing real dyno numbers. That's very much not bench tuning.

Does he have any way to at least do some fuel tuning?
Hondata would come in handy ... or AEM EMS, etc.

A fuel pressure regulator is on the way. I'll see him again next week. This guy is one of my patients. I'm a physical therapist.

You'll need more than just an FPR.
Are you using a stock ECU?

I'm not sure. Again, it's not my car. I know what questions to ask him when I see him next week.

PS: Why do I not get any e-mail notification?

Possibly a consequence of still being a "trial user".

WRT fuel tuning, even a VAFC would be useful.

I'll be trying one (VAFC) for the first time soon with stock cams hopeing for mid 180s + @ 8K+ rpm (rather generic header, intake, aftermarket cat and custom SMSP exhaust).
