The mixture of air and fuel has to much fuel in there, car is not running to it's optimum perfomance.

How do you fix this? I have heard that you turn the idle screw.

No that won't fix it. It could be a number of things, 02 sensor, MAP sensor, ECU is bad, and whole bunch of other crap.

Are you getting a check engine light?

i dont think a p28 will cause that alone.

how do you know you're running rich?
there are about a million things that could cause it.

advancing ignition timing alittle will help with it, buuut.. it could cause other problems.

what mods/car do you have?

Best way to find out if your running rich is by pulling your plugs. If there blacker then the concrete outside then your running rich. If there white your running lean.

Sometimes if your running rich you could shoot fire, right now im having that problem. Its funny as hell when you hear a backfire and look in your rearview and the car that was 5 ft behind you is now 30 ft behind you. lol.

The reason why I am saying I am running rich is because my car has a high idle.

High idle can be anything from throttle cable, to floor mat, to idle screw, to weather, etc.

High idle can be anything in other words, and i dont think you idle high if your rich (atleast i dont, but i do have a funny idle)

Could turning the idle screw up make your car run faster?

I dont think so. I believe the idle screw only works for the idle and nothing more. Because when you turn the screw it opens for more air into the engine during idle, or less air. So when you move the gas peddle the idle is gone and it does nothing.

Atleast thats how i see it.

Then why would the person I bought it from change the idle, or is it something else?

What do you mean by change the idle? Like is the ecu chipped so they changed the idle with tuning? Or change the idle like pull the idle screw all the way out?

Also where exactly is your idle at?
