Just wanted to know how many miles you guys actually get before filling up...Of course the specs that honda gives is one thing, but for some reason I dont know if they are accurate after a year or two or three of use...

I usually get between 275-280 on a 5th gen before i have to fill up...roughly 17 miles to the gallon...

I do mostly hwy miles and i get no where near the Spec 22/27 mpg...

Anyone go higher? any recommendations to boost the milage?

 

Depends on if you keep your foot out of it or not.

The VTEC, especially in the H22, likes to drink the gas. Just look at the stock A/F ratio when the engine has VTEC engaged. 11's, 10's, and 9's. Man is that fat!

EDIT - I exaggerated on the A/F. It's more like low 12's, 11's, then high 10's. Still fat *** hell though.

I think I might need to replace my distributor cap and rotor since its never been replaced and I have 47K on my 00SH

that and the high elevation isnt helping either
when I go to NY and stay the week I get really close to the 22/27mpg

 

im weird and never fill my car up all the way, always 3/4. lol im nutty like that. but that sounds about right. maybe 19 mpg if u shift at 3 and never hit vtec and go the speed limit. the reason u get such shitty gas mileage is because at 80 5th gens are at 4 grand. if u went the speed limit (65) you would be somewhere around 3 or maybe lower, hence better gas mileage.

I didnt think about that, youre right, the RPMs are really high at that speed... i think i will try speed limit for a while...but 4Grand is not near VTEC to guzzle that bad...

I normally drive 80

 

My mostly stock h22a1 with a m2s4 tranny got around 33mpg highway with 120k miles on the engine. Don't know what is up with with yours.

Yeah you are probably going 65...but as stated above at 80mph we are turning like 4000rpms. I have a 4th gen non vtec and I am lucky to get 300 mi to the tank. Before any mods I could get like 330-350. I must floor it a bit more with the mods

the mpg may be difference in some cars, because the civic/swap h22 will have smaller gas tank, some 10 & 12 gallons tank, depening on what model, how many gallon is the prelude tanks? ??

 

I get between 23 and 26, depending on how much I have my foot in it on accelerations. I usually drive about 80 on the highway, traffic permitting. <U>You can't go by how many miles you get on a tank, because you never fill up the exact same amount of gas</U>. You need to use your trip odometer, reset it when you fill, then take not of the mileage the next time you fill, reset it. Use that number and divide the number of gallons into that to get your miles per gallon.

Miles / Gallons = MPG

Edit: My motor is not stock, Type-S pistons, Crower Stage 2 cams, I/H/E/Pulleys, V-AFC, and the gas mileage is about exactly what is was before the buildup.

I reset my trip odo on my 4th gen everytime i get gas and I average 28 mpg's in mixed driving. I always break 300 miles before I fill up. Curious to see what setups you guys are running. I have a p/p head, extrude honed manifold, I/H/E, and JE pistons at stock comp. I hit 191 whp/ 164 ft.lb so its no stock econo car. HOw much is a gallon of gas in your area. It's 1.88 at the generic gas station for premium in VA.

 

It was $1.96 by my house yesterday.

 

I got about 350 miles before needing to fill, which gave me about 21-24 mpg on average. When I plugged up the EGR, that dropped to about 240-260 miles, and 18 mpg or so.

 

lol no idea where u guys live, but its 2.33 a gal here in Orange CA. sucks big time. ive only seen 1 gas station in my entire life that had 104 octane. nothing above 91 around here, very sad

 

im not a prelude. . . but with the f22 tranny on the h22, i get about 31 mpg. it's been as low as 27, and as high as about 34. . ..

Nope about 75 with cruise on open highway High desert plains (flat, dry and at 5000' elevation) But I was also running a h23 tranny. So even if I were running at 80 I would only turn about 3700 or so. Tires make a big difference too. I did get 23 once too. running 225 45 17" azenis in the city.

i have a 89 si 3rd gen... i get 270-300 miles to a tank... so i think its around 17-21 miles to the gallon... i got 22 once... :smile:

 

Damn, I didn't know that I wasn't the only one with low numbers... wow you are running pretty rich though... are you gonna tune some of that out? Kinda weird how both of our a/f are pretty much the same...


Oh, adn I have been known to get as much as 27 MPG when I don't hit it, but boy that is rare (an entire tank w/out VTEC...) other wise I get around 300 miles per tank.

nah man i ride my **** hard. plus i just went to SC 2wks ago and i went 420 on one tank and i was doing 90 the whole way there! i was shocked too

 

i get about 310 before i have to fill up, which averages to about 25 mpg. i'm driving at around 80-90 on the freeway and spend a lot of time mashing the gas.

 

I get horrible gas mileage. Oh wait, that's because of the blower

 

i've owned 3 preludes in my lifetime and i have to say my average daily driving was between 19-24 in the city. definately not a civic by any means lol.

 

I've gone as low as 22mpg and as high as 27mpg. I drive in a variety of conditions including rushhour traffic.

Mileage was particularly bad in the winter, but recently the car has been doing well, consistently running 25mpg. I've been driving 320 to 350 miles on a tank of gas.

I tend to drive a bit fast, but its not often I go into vtec. And I tend not accelerate any faster than necessary; I've noticed some people tend to pull hard out of every stoplight.

My car is a 5th gen with 85,000 miles and no mods whatsoever, so that probably helps mileage.
