buying a tranny need tips
the tranyn is off the so is there a way to check things to see if the tranny is still in good condition? like checking the output shaft to the shifter and the main shaft play or something?
i kno i can drain the tranny fluid and see if theres any flakes.. is there any other tips?
oh and another question...
which would you rather buy
95 gsr tranny for 400
or a
98+ gsr tranny for 600
i kno the 98 would most likely have less miles and better condition but do you think its worth saving the 200 bucks?
also how much do it usually cost to fix a tranny if i do decide to buy the older/cheaper one will my saving of 200 bucks be able to rebuild the tranny?

Its hard to check for things other than whats obvious. Without cracking the case open you won't be able to tell if there is a bad bearing or synchro or anything like that. Do you know the guys selling the trannys? Do you trust them? You could always just buy one, take it down to your local tranny shop and have it checked out before use.

$200 won't touch the price of a rebuild; those parts add up faster than you would believe. That amount of money might pay for a couple small things, assuming you're doing the installation yourself. As was said above, it really needs to be opened up and inspected - unless you can trust the seller.
