Cold Air Intake problems...
Intake problems on my Accord... 8:51 PM 11/4/2001
The air filter on my intake recently fell off. A few miles after reattaching it, my car (1999 Accord EX) started acting funny. The rev on the tachometer would go past 2000rpm, and the engine would be louder than usual. Also, the intake has become unusually loud whenever I step on the gas. And, the engine shakes significantly when I turn the ignition off....
My friend told me to reset the computer by disconnecting the negative from the battery. I left if off overnite, and the the rev has returned to a little over 1000rpm in idle. However, the engine still makes a lot of noise, the intake is still incredibly loud, and the car still shakes after I turn the engine off.
Can anyone give me some advice on what the problem may be? And...how to possibly fix it?

first of all, keep your clamps tight.
second of all, the two ways i know of to reset your ecu, are:
#1. while the car is running, pull your radio relay fuse first, then pull your cpu fuse. keep them out for at least a minute. put both fuses back in, and start the car back up.
#2. disconnect your negative cable from your battery. hold the unattatched negative cable in your right hand, and the positive post in your left. maintain for a minute or two, reconnect, and start up. what happens is, your body absorbs the energy from the computer, therefore clearing the computer. the computer ends up with no memory, so when you restart it, the computer adjusts to the current status of your engine. the first time i did this, i felt more difference than when i put my CAI on.
third, (hopefully not) you sucked up some dirty air particles when your filter fell off. i would assume that reseting the computer would help out, because of the high tach line. i don't know, just my 2 cents.

DO NOT EVER do anything electrical with the car while it is on. you can short something out. if you want to rset ecu, just disconnect neg battery terminal for 15 sec.
Turned out to be a piece of melted plastic stuck in the manifold...
well, there's a steel shield in the manifold which blocks anything too big from getting in...
i dont have a bypass valve...
but one question, i have this generic *** CAI. is brand name AEM really that much better?
thanks

To answer your question- No. A dress shirt that came from Wal-Mart will still provide the same exact function as a dress shirt made by Perry Ellis or Nautica. The AEM just has that brand name recognition. I'll tell you, they Eckerd brand of Tylenol works just as well as the real thing. Did you know, for example, that when you go to the pharmacist and the doctor prescribes penicillan, you'll most likely get a "generic" brand. That's why it's so cheap, but it still clears up that infection just the same. Hell, I am running the stock box with a K&N drop in and a removed resonator and it works just as well in my opinion. Why pay $140 for something you can get for $30?
yeah...thats what i thought...i saved like a 100 bucks...then how come it seems like everyone on this forum is braggin on their AEM CAI? it makes me feel like AEM is in fact better...
What kind of CAI did u get...I have a 94 and i was looking to get a cold air intake but i heard not to cause my car is too low and i live in Florida and they said i could lock up the engine if i got water in it so everyone recommended that i get a short ram air...what do u think??? If i got the CAI would the bypass valve help???
Thanks
Thanks
