Default Integra problems! (LS with GSR swap) Please help.

Hey everyone, my bf mike has an 00 ls with a 98 gsr swap...he was driving home from my place this evening and the car just shut off after about an hour or so. It won't start now. He had some problems with his cat over the past week, i think just heat shield issues (it came loose and he took part off). When the car shut off, he popped the hood and said the exhaust mani was glowing red. He checked the oil - all good there. We are wondering...what could be the problem? Could there be something wrong with his cat? Like could it be clogged? Has anyone ever had this happen? Anyways...just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Yes, it could be clogg up. Do you have aftermarket cat? or stock? Because I had the same problem when I put my cat backward. The cat was glowing red like I have a neon under kit.. Pretty cool, but I dont think it safe.

Tell him to dick out the cat, run it open and see if it still does that again. If it doesn't then you know what the problem is; if it does then you should have it check out. If it still act the same, then I would double check my coolant because it might overheaded. What your temp at? was the needle at middle or high hot???

Thanks. He said the car was at normal temp when it shut off (needle on the left, not all the way in the middle), but i could tell him to check the coolant...even though he probably will/did. It is not an aftermarket cat - i believe it's an ls cat. We were thinking about running it without the exhaust, just to see if it started. Anyways, anymore ideas?

i'm gonna check the cat tonite and see if it starts...also...the car has been bogging and chugging slightly since i put the swap in...i was told it could be from bad dizzy...but i dunno what that has to do about my manifold glowing bright red...i'm guessing thats the cat...will a clogged cat make my car so it won't start at all? O2 would prolly read that i'm guessing and throw a check engine light...lemme know what u all think....thanks Staci..for posting and helping me out last night..your the best

i'd definately take off the cat and try and run it without it. it sounds like for some reason your exhaust is not making it past the manifold and those gasses are not able to get through the cat and out of the exhaust system, hence your glowing hot mani. as far as the not starting thing, something may have gotten too hot or cooked under there. ie, starter wire or sumthin. its hard to tell w/ out seeing it. good luck man.

See, i think something might be wrong with his exhaust too...if so, the o2 sensor might have caught it and shut the car off...like once enough exhaust gas had built up instead of leaving the system...i don't know, just my two cents. It would probably turn the mani red as well.

try a compression test. just an idea, but if the distributor is whack, then the timing could be off and maybe you burnt a hole in a(some) piston(s). Far fetched, but then again??? Who knows, just a worst case scenario.

a clogged cat is similar to stuffing a wet sock down your exhaust pipe. the exaust gases have no where to go so your car gets constipated and shuts down...

undo the cat bolts and take the B-pipe off the hangers. check to see if you can look down the pipe. try starting the engine without the pipe on. Just make sure youre not holding the pipe or looking down it when the car starts.

With some folks, you just have to be that obvious with the disclaimer...

(next post) DAMN... now i have no hair and eyebrows!@!!!!
