Default HELP STOP THE THEFTS.

Ok, so all the teg's are getting snatched over night. (including mine) I want to start this thread so teg owners can unite and protect.

If you have had a "near thieft" which was foiled by some sort of protection, please list it hear, because everyone has advise like, never park outside over night, alarm etc etc, but as most people know, these situations come up!

So.. aside from being more careful, what can we all do?

My idea has been, tap into ignition wires of ECU, then run a bundle of wires all of like colors to a switch hidden somewhere CLEVER. No switch, no start.

I figure, if I MUST leave the teg out in a high risk area, then the combination of the kill switch, pager alarm, and club will stop car thiefs unless they have a flatbed. in which case your fucked anyway.

Has anyone foiled a theif before? SHARE SHARE.. thanks,

Need piece of mind,
Dominic (milwaukee, stolen twice in one day, 95 teg LS)

if a theif really wants your car he will get it.

however there are many ways to make the car a huge hassle. Personally i think there should be a Car cover which when the cover is removed tricks an alarm.

this first idea is a very good one. If the alarm goes off when they start to remove the cover it gives ample time for the alarm to sound before they can cut any wires. how would something like this get rigged up? maybe motion sensors? any ideas?

remove the door pannel and install a magnet switch in the door , then have a magnet stiched into the car cover, once the cover is on, and the alarm is armed, if the cover is removed it pulls the magnet away from the door, setting the alarm off simple as that. Unfortunatly, it seems a little impractical...

Speaking of impractial ideas...

I'd rather install windshield sprayers in the dome light so when the alarm is activated, it sprays an old nitrous tank full of pepper spray into the interior, filling the car with unbearable pepper spray..

this may sound like a hassle, but when i park my car and can't see it from where i'm at, i'll take the ecu with me. here's the best part...i have a dummy ecu i put in its place. the dummy ecu has nothing inside, just the plugs!

One thing a few of us did:

Problem:
Trunk release cable for an integra runs alongside the wheelwell (under the plastic wheel well cover) on the outside of the car. We had a rash of thefts here and realized the thieves would peel back the plastic wheel well cover release the hood from the outside, snip the alarm horn wires and could work with impunity.

Solution:
Disconnect the hood release cable from the actual release (pop your hood release inside the car) pull it off the outside wheel well and re-run it back through the firewall and reconnect it to the hood release. This way you cannot have access to the trunk release from the outside of the car. It's a pain in the *** to run it back through the firewall (I recommend a straightened coat hanger and a LOT of strong tape) but it's well worth it IMO. Overall it's about a 2 hour DIY even less if you get lucky re-running it back through the firewall.

farkin thieves should all die a thousand deaths

you can't put a price on peace of mind..but in this case it's 600 bucks + 10-20 dollars/month for service.

Here are the three most important things that you need to do:

- Reroute the hood cable. It normally runs through the driver's side fender and is easy to get to from outside. You can reroute it through the engine bay without much trouble.

- Disable the power unlock wires (at least when the car is turned off); this is how most thieves get in. You can cut the wires at the switches to disable them completely, or use relays to disable them when you turn the ignition off or arm the alarm.

- Hidden kill switch. Kill something like fuel or ignition, but make sure that your switch and it's wires can handle the current that you would be running through them. The fuel pump doesn't require much, but a big beefy ignition power wire is too much to put a simple switch on. Don't waste your time on starter kills because those are common and very easy to get around (you can just pop-start the car anyway). And don't let the alarm control it; it needs to be a manual switch.

The wires you cut into need to be in a concealed location and not easily bypassed from another part of the circuit. Your switch and the wires going to it need to be very well hidden and in an uncommon location. Under the driver's side dash is the first place they'll look, so don't bother putting the switch anywhere near there or tapping into anything from there. The ECU is also easy to get to, so if you cut a wire going to the ECU, do it from somewhere that's harder to get to and can't be seen when they remove the passenger's kick panel.

If you kill the main relay, do it somewhere between the ECU and the main relay. They are both easy to get to, so a thief will be able to see if you tap in at either location, so do it in a more concealed spot between them. If you kill the fuel pump, tap in at the pump itself, under the rear seats. This is harder to get to and can't be bypassed from anywhere else.

That sucks. Another way is that if someone can read ur vin number off the plate on your dashboard, Then they can go get a key made for your car. Now the dearlership is suppossed to make you provide proof that you are the owner of the car before they create another key, but people goof up. That goes back to if a theif really wants your car, then he will get it. I covered mine up, got an alarm with the little pager, and also I have a garage. I hope mine never comes up missing.

Disconnect the lowbeam headlights and brake and taillight fuses... If a theif steals your car it's most definately gonna be at night. He'll turn on the lights and they won't work, so then he'll click on the brights to see. A car ridin around with no taillights and it's brights on will very likely get pulled over and the thief knows he can't get pulled over so he'll run and likely be caught...
