Help with whining noise.
I've got a problem with a whining noise coming from the R. I'll give a little background then describe what exactly is happening currently; maybe someone will have an idea what my problem is.
This past weekend i attended a Performance/Competition Driving School for the first time. This was my first time on a road circuit, and i was very suprised how hard my instructor had me push myself and the car. Anyway over the course of the second day i had a couple of rough, grindy shifts, trying to shift too fast or hard. I also drove over the curbing on the edges of the chicane pretty agressively, as instructed by my instructor. The car ran like a champ all day and had no problems.
After i left the track and started out onto the street to make the 3 hour drive home i noticed a whining sound coming from what sounds like the right front side of the car. The sound doesn't start to make itself apparent until about 60 km/hr and gets gradually louder up to about 80 km/hr and then kind of quietens down a bit above 80 (or just gets drowned out by the engine noise, i'm not sure which). I also noticed that the sound goes away when i let off the throttle. The whine only happens at neutral throttle or when accelerating, and gets higher pitched the faster i go. When i push the clutch in or let off the throttle it pretty much goes away. It does this in any gear and is most noticeable in fifth gear, likely bacause the engine is revving lower and thus making less noise. I started worrying that maybe i damaged something in the tranny, so i just flushed the tranny fluid today and refilled with Synchromesh and Friction Modifier this morning. There was a bit of filings stuck to the Spoon magnetic plug, but nothing drastic enough to indicate any moderate damage being done. I drove the car after the flush and the noise hasn't changed any.
So now, because the sound seems to be coming from the right side of the car we're thinking maybe i might have damaged the wheel bearings from hitting the curbing in the chicane repeatedly too hard. But is it possible for the wheel bearings to only whine when driving at a constant speed or acceleratingand almost go away when not on the throttle? Or does anyone have an idea what else it could be? Yeah, sorry for the long post, but i want to give all the information i can, in the hopes someone might know what's going on here.
